I love Hurley as a college coach

I don't think he'd work as an NBA coach.
BaF Lakers:

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Bench: Malcolm Brogdon/Hansen Yang/Rocco Zikarsky/RJ Luis Jr.

Now that Hurley said **** you to the Lakers I’m holding out hope he is the future heir to the Thibodeau throne. East Coast guy and wouldn’t need to go far from CT.

Let’s pray for this whenever it’s time for Thibs to go. Hurley can continue building the foundation of grit that Thibs has established.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

He's definitely holding out for the Knicks job. He is trying to get to immortality in the college scene with that 3-peat.

If Thibs doesn't get out of the 1st or 2nd round next year... Knicks universe will put this on Thibs.

Thibs is gonna get an extension

That's a solid 2-3 years of disappointing seasons before he would get cut loose. Only way he gets fired after next year is if the team is awful, which isn't happening as long as we have Brunson. Even missing the playoffs, if we're in the play-in I don't see any way he's fired.

Thibs has 1 year on his deal... maybe we extend him 4 more years with the final year being a team option? This way we can pull the plug if needed to hand the reigns to Hurley if he wants it. Like going from Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr... Maybe...

Dan Hurley just really pulled the Decision on the Lakers.

Going back to CT to get not one, not two, not three..

Hurley turned the Lakers down to stay at UCONN.

Smart man. I'd rather keep a 35mil contract with 500k retention bonus payments from now til 2029 instead of going into LeBron's next disaster waiting to happen. They were quick to throw Vogel and Ham in the sh*tter and both had winning records.

He runs that place. In LA he would have to tip toe around LeBron and AD. It's a no brainer decision. 35mil contract with yearly half a million bonuses is good money, and less stress.

Obviously I am biased since Danny er Dan's family is held in high regard here in NJ, but I didn't wanna see him get sucked into that garbage they got going on over there in LA.

Yeah I agree. I honestly don't know. NBA coaching is a whole different animal from college and if you're not used to dealing with grown millionaires and their egos it's rough. If Danny was an assistant that put in time on NBA benches maybe.

He's better off at UCONN. Now if the Knicks job comes up with Brunson in tow, he would have to consider it since JB is a culture setting star that isn't a lunatic. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. Thibs isn't getting fired

His biggest strength is recruiting and energy. He's getting more top prospects than UConn normally gets, we were even in it with Duke for Flagg this year, and his use of the transfer portal has been excellent. Then while he's not a bad X's and O's guy, that's not really his thing you know?

So that's why I don't see him really translating to the NBA. The one point where it might work is, until a couple years ago we ran a pretty simple offense, but then when that wasn't working well enough he brought in some new assistants to upgrade it and now we run one of the most complex offenses in college (which is part of why Stephon Castle's numbers weren't great), so while he himself isn't the one innovating, he's shown the ability to recognize his own flaws and try to fix them.

After Thibs gets 2-3 more seasons here, we could transition to Hurley if there’s a mutual desire for it.

extension means guaranteed money -- doesn't guarantee him actually being the coach -- I think he's going to be 68 soon after all

Thibs will definitely get his extension. You're saying that if he exits in the 1st or 2nd round with little injuries.. he will still stay as Knicks coach?

It's called sunk cost

Once he signs that extension, even if we disappoint next year, one bad year won't be enough for the FO to justify cutting bait with him because they've invested in him. It would take multiple consecutive years of disappointment.
