You can’t say the Mavs are one of the weakest finals opponents in history & believe either team could win in 6 or 7 lol

If Tatum keeps playing like Tobias Harris with a wrist fracture then Mavs in 7.

If Tatum can play like healthy Tobias Harris Celtics in 5-6

Raptors had the ability to go small and go big anytime they wanted. That's the advantage of true depth. Kawhi would have ate everyone's food on the Celtics roster on BOTH ends that season.

Kawhi would have struggled being guarded by Brown & Tatum

Raps had a much tougher road to the finals.
That's for sure.

Talent wise - I think both teams are neck & neck. But defense wins championships and the Raps defense in that title run was some of the best ever in NBA playoffs history.

Nonetheless, this series would most likely go to 7 games.

78-20 with one one if the highest net ratings of all time but hey you said they were weak so it must be true ?

Celtics -
64 Wins
11.6 net rating for the regular season (equal 3rd all time)
11.4 net rating for the playoffs (7th all time)

Raptors -
58 Wins
5.8 net rating for the regular season
5.6 net rating for the playoffs

It’s not close.
Also, out of all the key players for both teams that were/are in their prime, the Raptors had 1 (Kawhi), Celtics have 4 (Tatum, Brown, Porzingis, White).

This isn't a functional way to compare teams in the playoffs, since each team plays a specific slate of opponents. It's not perfect, but you have to look at how each opponent fared in the regular season to produce an "expected net rating" and then see how much the Celtics/Raptors raised or lowered it by. The Celtics gaining a dominant playoff net rating by butchering the Heat (without Butler), the Cavs (without Mitchell), and the Pacers (eventually without Haliburton) is less impressive than just pointing at their 11.4 net rating. The Raptors beat a 60-win Bucks team, and a 51-win Phili team that added Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris midseason.

No one has any doubt the 2024 Celtics had a better regular season than the 2019 Raptors. This is also misleading though because the Raptors added Marc Gasol at the trade deadline and rested Kawhi Leonard, strategically all season.

All this to say, stacking up net ratings from different situations doesn't help us understand who would win this series.

No chance. Kawhi had one of the best playoff runs ever in history. Kawhi right now is still better than Tatum and brown.

Who have they faced in the playoffs? Not one star played in the east.

LOL not sure if you're serious here. Kawhi didn't struggle being guarded by a prime Butler/Simmons and you think Tatum/Brown have a chance?

Its all good, we're all homers to an extent lol.

We’re 78-20 this year with one of the highest net ratings of all time you clown

And yet our purported #1 option hasn’t shown up in the playoffs since 2022, unless he gets to play against his pigeon Embiid.

I’m absolutely betting on Kawhi to go supernova and Tatum to shrink.

Brown will get 25-30 pts but Tatums 2-13 FG won’t enough.

What is unintelligent. Usually much of the outcome hinges on the performance of your best player.

If Tatum continues to lay eggs scoring wise, with 4-24 games, then im not sure the Celtics can pull it out over a Kyrie finding his feet at home and a Luka going for 50 (which he will, he’s not Tatum).

Not to mention Porzingis is perennially injured.

The Celtics have a better offense overall than the Raptors and a real ability to play 5 out. 2024 Al Horford is showing 2019 Marc Gasol how to punish the defense for not guarding you (Gasol was famously reluctant to shoot more than few 3s per game and it occasionally stagnated the Raptors in the playoffs).

The Raptors defense is one of the top 3 playoff defenses of all-time (going by relative defensive rating compared to opponent). The Boston offense is not going to be able to do the stuff they like to do. Porzingis can't post Gasol, and Tatum/Brown have to go against an armada of strong wing defenders. Raptors can contain Tatum easier than any of these 2024 Boston opponents, which ultimately means life is harder for Brown who can't attack against the collapse, weakside.

But the Raptors offense struggled all playoffs against very good defenses, and Boston is a very good defense. They have multiple options to put on Kawhi, and his mismatches aren't as juicy. Still though, 2019 Kawhi Leonard had little problem against Aaron Gordon, Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler, Giannis, Klay, and Draymond.

I like Boston's top 6 better than Toronto's, but Toronto is deeper. Toronto went 8-deep and didn't even need to dust off a 2nd year OG Anunoby.

I think this goes 6 or 7 and is super ugly, with neither offense gaining a foothold. I'm taking Toronto because I think Kawhi can gut out some crunch time offense, and Toronto will get less worn down with a deeper rotation as the series goes on.
