Some perspective on viewing Tatum's "bad games".

BTW, Tatum had 14 potential assists in G1, twice as much as Luka. Was also the primary defender on Gafford/Lively who killed prior West teams with their lobs/rebounding. Still getting the same defensive attention and providing gravity for his teammates as previous series.

Tatum still helps this team just by his "gravity" But I Still feel he is far more capable. I also feel The Mavs gave him heavy attention and dared his teammates to beat them. Should be interesting to see what Dallas does with Tatum on defense in game 2.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

Tatum passed Kevin Garnett on the all time playoff scoring list with his first bucket in game 1. He is now 40th. Next up on the list are Bill Russell and Ray Allen with Robert Parish (36th) and Sam Jones (33rd) not that far ahead.

Since he entered the league, Tatum has 2616 playoff points. Jokic (2213), Brown (2198) and Curry (2001) are the only other guys above 2000 points for that time period.

Lead the team to a title and I'll buy into this Duncan Lite comp.

Yeah….but he’s not a superstar…..just second tier…..according to general board.

Supermax and 6 more years of winning works for me.

Read on Twitter

Team is asking the most of him -- sacrifice the one thing he's been known for all his life (scoring), play center on defense and battle with the bigs inside, play PG on offense and facilitate for others, become decoy/attention-drawer to open up good looks for everyone else while playing the most minutes at 19 years old.

EDIT: sacrifice scoring may be overly dramatic 'cos he's still getting up shots (make more of 'em, JT!).

JT playing Point Forward with elite defense, unleashing Cookies & Cream and the pitbull backcourt, makes the Celtics nearly unbeatable.

Only two first team All NBA players still playing.
Only one second tier All NBA player made it to their WCF.
Only one third team All NBA player made it to their ECF (barely).
The rest fizzled out.
Nice runner up trophies, but only two have put themselves in a position to win the ultimate award.

The media’s coverage of these Finals is ridiculous. We’re up 2-0 & all the media can talk about is Tatum’s missed shots.
But this is the new NBA the media is in love with. You can give no effort on defence & be down in the series but hey as long as you’re putting up sexy numbers you won’t get any criticism sent your way.

Jrue Holiday had 17 points in the paint. 7 baskets came in the half court on Tatum assists. Kudos to Holiday, but that doesn’t happen unless Tatum is an incredible talent.

I can't remember who to credit with saying that Tatum has become a PF version of Rondo, but I a) love it and b) want to point out that that's a long way from trying to be Kobe.

and it's BOSTON CELTICS BASKETBALL LET'S **** GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Sure but if other stars listen to that noise and refuse to learn how to play winning basketball that's good for the Celtics' ability to keep winning in future seasons. So there is a silver lining at least.
