No no no! If we trade that pick for Alex Caruso I'm going to explode with anger. IF...We do trade the pick, it has to be part of a bigger deal.

think some cba rule shenanigans makes it harder to use in a bigger trade IIRC

would have to draft a guy and THEN move him i think

Please use the pick on a player who can contribute from day one and grow with Maxey and Council. There are 5-6 legit kids who can come in here and be more valuable by next year's playoffs than some tired role player. I'm so sick of seeing kids contributing to winning situations around the league (Lively is a classic example) while we keep depending on flavor of the month vet role players.

The problem is Lively was pure trash on offense at Duke and was drafted on pure hype, size/athleticism, and his defensive ability. The reason he's become serviceable on offense is because he's playing with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.

Our stars are not the distributors that Doncic and Irving are, so we can't expect them to mask other's weaknesses on offense. If you want someone who can contribute early on and has potential to be more than a role player, I think our best bet is Jared McCain since he has the elite shooting trait and doesn't require Embiid or Maxey to feed him offense. He just won't be able to play much at the same time as Maxey.

Caruso is a good player. I think we'd be fortunate to get him for 16. Bulls want way more for him anyway, so it doesn't matter.

A rookie doesn’t need to be/shouldn’t be the 3rd or 4th scoring option, nor do they have to be an immediate starter. A cheap 15-20 mins a night role player would do wonders. We can’t expect to fill out a bench with vet min players and have it work out.

No argument at all. At the time, I thought Lively was crazy to enter the draft due to his offense.

The point is that the Mavs found a kid that perfectly fit what they needed. You named one who could contribute here right away, even if it's as a 6th man type. There are others that have been named here that could fit in other ways. I'd rather get one of them that can also grow in the organization than some one and done journeyman role player.

Morey traded the 23rd pick for Melton. I can totally see him trading the 16th pick for a Caruso type.

I'm not saying he wouldn't, but the two are very different cases. Melton was still a kid on his rookie deal who had already been a productive pro for a good organization, while Caruso is very likely a one and done deal here. And #16 is practically a late lottery pick.

Despite liking a few of the players who should be on the board at 16, I have no problem trading the 16th pick for Caruso. But that also means convincing the Bulls to actually trade a roster player for the first time in what, 3 years? It's crazy. With that said, I'd only trade for Caruso if they end up going all on. If they sign PG-13, then adding Caruso makes some sense. If they miss out on the top FA and fill out the roster with 1+1 players, then I definitely wouldn't trade for Caruso. Unfortunately, the draft is before FA so Morey has to have a damn good idea of what is gonna happen in July but on draft night :banghead:

I don't want to trade #16. Hopefully that's the highest we're picking for a while, and the upside of landing a potential cost controlled contributor would be huge for team building if they end up going the 3rd max like Morey wants.

That said, if Caruso is on the table I think it's a no brainer. He's elite defensively, can be the secondary ball handler next to Maxey, is a capable spot up shooter, and has a contract that's easy to work into their off-season plans. You need guys that can contribute at a high level without needing the ball, and that's exactly what he does. Elite role player that would fit particularly well next to multiple high usage players.

I don't think it matters though, since the Bulls are crazy.

Bodner, Neubeck, and Givens are currently discussing Dejounte Murray. His contract at the moment might make him pretty alluring, particularly if the Hawks are selling at a price less than what they paid for him. If it's 2 future firsts (keep this year's pick) and Paul Reed, I'd be interested. Still have money to throw at FA, even top end ones.

Caruso would be a great add, it's the kind of player we need next to Maxey in the backcourt. At least you are adding a solid rotation player, something these Playoffs are showing it's a must to compete.

I woudn't be mad if we trade a non lottery pick for him in a weak draft, some of you forget Biid window is 2/3 years. We don't have that much time to develop players right now. Maxey as great a pick he was, it took a couple of years to be Playoff ready.

Sure, in an ideal world we draft a stud with that pick, but the Draft most of the time it's a gamble, no franchise or GM has an impeachable drafting record.

I understand if they think we don't have the luxury to gamble right now and it's better to go for a sure thing like Caruso.

I also think a cheap reclamation project that wouldn't cost us much in terms of picks would be Andrew Wiggins. I don't know what's going on in his personal life, but if he's in a good spot mentally and can return to his fringe all star ability, he'd fit nicely at the 3 for us.

I'm talking him being a salary dump for GSW.

I'm intrigued by Caruso because he's one of those rare players who's numbers indicate he's a defensive scheme all by himself, irrespective of the other guys he's on the court with. But he is a wallflower on offense and on an expiring. I'm not trading 16 for him. If it was a pick in the 20s, that'd probably be fine.

The defense of Caruso is the sell there, but the offense one of the taller SF's in the draft might be worth it.

Furphy at 6"8
Salaun at 6"9
Dunn at 6"6
George at 6"7

Need more wings and I hope Nurse could develop them.

I don't think this is accurate. Melton had signed a new contract in 2020. Only difference is that he had 2 years left and Caruso has 1 year left. But in terms of yearly dollars, it's about the same.

Dejounte is my #1 choice of the 2nd wave. I'd take him over Ingram. The first wave includes guys like Mikel Bridges and Markaanen.
