Unless the Raps have identified a diamond in the rough that's being vastly undervalued, this isn't the draft to move up in.

The ringer mock draft currently has Ware going 9th and Walter going 19th. Whose certain Ware is going to be more impactful than Walter? The tankathon mock draft currently has Holland going 9th and Filipowski going 19th. Whose certain Holland will be more impactful than Flip?

The tier of player you're moving up to get likely won't be that much different than the player you can get by just staying put so I don't see the value.

Maybe because they have Brown and they want to offload him, getting an improved pick might be part of the deal.

we always target a gem out of reach. clear track record of identifying the top talent in each draft... yet we keep trading away picks lol. We had a lotto pick, and it seems we like someone who's going to go top 10. This is my issue, stop **** trading picks.

It's either for Edey or Salaun and Masai will come up short as usual.

At least we're rumoured to after future MVP candidates

Why couldn't Masai just pay up / overpay for these picks? Twice now these targeted picks turned out to be franchise altering - which pays off 10x fold even for an overpay.

Or is this a bias thing, where Masai floats lots of targets, and we look back and lament only the targets that turned into franchise stars?

I’m not saying he is or will be a star….but if you hit on Saluan, he could absolutely be on a different tier, it’s not coincidence that he’s thought of as THE gamble in this draft.

I’m not saying that I’m personally 100% sold that he is worth the risk but you just need to watch him and you can see how the potential is tantalizingly. Our FO has gone to scout him on more than one occasion and I’m sure they’ve followed his development a lot more closely than any of us. You’d think if they’re checking him out that much at minimum there’s something about him they’re very intrigued by. If they were to make that move then I’d be pretty excited by it because obviously pretty much any time you’ve heard about them wanting to, that player has ended up being damn good…and I just have my doubts that Edey as a senior, that just a year or ago was thought of as 2nd rounder whom the Raptors obviously could’ve drafted last year if they were so in love with him could’ve had whether that was with the 13th (obv too high) but they could’ve promised him to get a later pick or trade for a high 2nd (apparently he wanted a promise and no one did)…but now they’re trying to trade up for him?! I doubt it. IF they do I think it’s TS and if they’re right, he could be a notch up imo but that’s definitely a gamble.

obviously they want to keep the pick, especially if it were top 4....but it's not a sky is falling down situation that they lost it in a so-called weak draft.

Masai is such a bozo, almost like he shouldn't have traded our pick to begin with

If only there was a way we could have kept our lottery pick instead of making a Spur of the moment decision….

I wouldn't go as far to call him a name, but the front office over the past few years has been poor at evaluating situations.

They spent almost two months to secure a weird novice head coach who surrounded himself with non-threatening amateurs, then dangled their best player development story for a bunch of middling picks and then decided to tank the season way too late in the year. Now, if they are trying to trade up in this sorry draft just for Edey or Salaun it just proves they lost their ability to evaluate talent.

There is no way there is a need to trade up in such a flat draft. The talent is basically the same all the way through the first round that even in Toronto's position you might get a guy like Tyler Kolek who outperforms Reed Sheppard at the 3 spot. There are zero franchise guys or all-NBA types. Hopefully it is all just smoke.

The good thing is, we're probably around the same phase in terms of changing roster.

Incredible trade but even that wasn't to move up or acquire a first round pick to pick someone in the draft, he's never done that before.

The difference this year is we have Bruce Brown to throw into a trade to move up.

Well, he'll actually have a bunch of potential trade partners this time around that wouldn't mind moving down. Throw Bruce their way and get it done.

They did a decent review of a 6 year window for draft day trades.

I feel like it’s almost never been done in franchise history. Masai has also never been in this kind of a rebuilding phase before in his career as well, so we may see it actually happen.
