What does it take to get Steven Adams?
Scrolling around today and saw Steven Adams is on the Rockets through end of next season for $12.6 million (which is under the projected MLE 12.8mil).
Got me thinking, who would have interest in making a move for him and what would be the price, or does Houston want to keep him?
Given injury history, I would say he's probably a 20-25 minute player going forward, but as an excellent teammate, screener and rebounder, he certainly has a value.

I think Houston traded for him to be a rotation guy next season.
Can't see them moving him unless they
- get blown away by an offer,
- his salary is absolutely needed for a consolodation trade
- We get a star center somewhere else.

Well they traded 3 seconds to get him (though one is the second to last pick in the draft, another 39), so you'd have to at least beat that.
They definitely traded for him to be their backup center next year

That makes sense, but at least 1 of those picks were for Memphis to eat Oladipo

No. Both oladipo and Adams were dead salary for the rest of the season. If anything Houston is the one who ate extra salary if you're looking at it from that perspectiveflranger wrote:K_chile22 wrote:Well they traded 3 seconds to get him (though one is the second to last pick in the draft, another 39), so you'd have to at least beat that.

This draft has 13 guys.
I would give Adams, Tate, Landale, four seconds for 13. Then take clingan to back up Sengun. 13 gets another wing prospect to develop.

I mean let him evaluate the draft how he wants. Once draft twitter starting saying this wasn't a good draft you have 85% of posters convinced the whole thing is trash as opposed to just it doesn't have the elite blue chipper most drafts have. No point in arguing. Though I listened to a pod with Givony recently and if this guy is supposed to be the cream of the crop, I have even more doubts about how bad this draft is. His "analysis" was beyond surface level terrible.
I'm much more concerned by the idea that Adams and 4 2nds somehow gets you a lottery pick. I want to hear more about how we arrived at such a notion.

Seems like a reasonable take. Most drafts have roughly 20 guys who get three + contracts in the NBA. This draft probably has around 15.

Seems like there are groupings:
In top 5 - Risacher, Sarr
In top 8 - Clingan, Sheppard
In top 10 - Castle, Dillingham, Buzelis
Rounds out the top12: Saluan, Topic, Knecht, Holland, CWilliams
Maybe pops up: JWalter, DCarter, McCain

I am bummed that Houston got him so easily and OKC didn't seem to make an effort. I know a lot of that is play style and keeping flexibility. But I don't expect Houston to give him up now he will be a good backup and incredible locker room guy.

Houston was willing to acquire him and deal with getting absolutely no on court value last year. It's just the flip side of that investment.
