I am kind of the opposite of you on this one. Getting Walter at 19 is a steal and he is my likely drop candidate so it could happen.

For the first couple months of the college season he shot 42% from three but then dropped off. I think the iffy shooting numbers are because of the shot diet which will be refined in the NBA.

He is a three level scorer but he works better off screens. He shot 42% off screens. His shot chart shows his depth. Overall he has excellent form as a shooter and looks like a pull up threat.

Read on Twitter

He is a below the rim finisher guy which is concerning but he drew fouls at a high rate so if he gets to the line about five times per game last year so it is probably not a write off.

I would say he is still young and has a strong base of skills to grow from. He just needs to add weight and naturally develop and you have a star shooting guard like Ty Maxey if things go right. Maxey also had some shooting concerns in college which he cleaned up in the NBA.

Fair point. But Bub is about same size, probably a better shooter and younger, with a PG skill. There’s better options at 19 than Walter. If the shooting doesn’t hit there’s not many bankable skills you can bet on unless he improves dramatically

In mocks, Rob Dillingham is currently 10th on tankathon, 15th on the ringer and 24th on nbadraft.net.

That's wild for a freshman who had shooting splits of 48/44/80. I don't care how bad he is defensively or how small he is, he has an an elite offensive skillset and in a weak draft like this, you take him and run. He's a guy I'd trade up for if he slides out of the top 8 or 9.

19: Kyshawn George
31: Klintman

At 19, George is okay, but so are Carrington, Holmes, Collier, Tyler Smith, and Filipowski. No real preference on one over another.

At 31, I don't think we will draft Klintman if we draft George. Say we draft George, I rather go with KJ, Bona, Mogbo, Djurisic, Ajay Mitchell. If we draft a big like Holmes, Flilp, or Holmes, then I actually like Baylor Scheierman.

If we cant grab one of the higher rated lottery ranked prospects then id love to get Mogbo and Djurasic or Tyson.

I think Mogbo can replace some of what OG and Siakam provided and hes à 3 point shot away from being à very valuable player.

With the other pick i think Djurasic or Tyson will be solid players, maybe not all star guards but rotation players at least

I would list Missi as the safest pick in this draft with a clear role on our team. I'd argue he's better than Koloko in many ways while being younger too.

Salaun's 47% at the rim really hurts him as a prospect and he has every advantage at 6'9, 7'2"
Going to need to clean that up and improve

Salaun is basically a lottery ticket. Maybe there's something there, maybe he doesn't go beyond one NBA contract like Sekou Doumbouya. I don't see what NBA skills he has currently that would get him on the court. He's probably a guy who needs 1-2 years in the gleague before stepping on a NBA court.

He's probably the best draft guy in the media right now. He's not going to go against consensus a lot but he understands how teams evaluate prospects, what to look for, and he's really deep. Better than Givony, Woo and KOC imo in terms of his depth and breadth.

With that said, he's not going to really bring anything controversial or unique to the table - those that do end up getting hired by teams. Thorpe is probably the best at this if you're looking for it; he could easily be doing this in the league but chooses not to and instead runs his own player development business working with the guys going in the draft and in the league on skill development. He's not as deep on every guy in the draft but has a much better feel for player potential. Some examples:
- In '21, he had Mobley 1 and Scottie 2
- In '22, he had a lottery grade on Jalen Williams while most had him right outside the lottery and had him as the steal of the draft
- In '23, he was not as high on Scoot as others and said he could turn out to be Eric Bledsoe

On Scottie, Vecenie had him a tier too low. By his definition, Scottie should be a tier 2. Wemby is a tier 1 prospect for example. But to his defense, people were split on Scottie. I remember Russillo and KOC being surprised when we picked Scottie but they liked him a lot more than Veccenie did and I think KOC had him 5 on his big board. Russillo said on the live draft pod that Scottie is special but that he just can't shoot and that "there are many in the league who believe that he will never be able to shoot".

In Vecenie's latest mock 4.0 he has Raptors dealing Poetl, 19 and 31 for 9 and Luke Kennard. Then he has Raptors taking Salaun ahead of Cody Williams at 9. Now what makes things interesting is it reverse ratchets the so-called Poetl trade "mistake". Raptors in the end get their lotto pick this year and most certainly next year. They lose one spot in the draft on paper. The Paskal trade ends up netting after thought throw ins Kira Lewis, and Jason Nwora (who may well serves us as roster spot in another rebuild and crash season). The later Paskal first turned into Olynyk and Agbaji. and still one future first remains. So the Siakam trade sees the later 2024 produce two veteran players. The higher 19 goes in with Poetl to get the lotto #9 and shooter Luke Kennard. The conditional and ultimately conveyed number 31 Detroit pick came from the OG deal stirring the entire pot and making all these assets related to one another. Take a deep breath.

What is left of the Siakam trade. Olynyk, Agbaji from the late Pacer's first, I guess Kennard for 19, whatever Brown fetches and a future Pacers first. What is left of the OG trade, IQ and RJ as 31 will not fill a roster spot rather it merges with Poetl for number 9 and theorized Tijane Salaun.

In:
1. Kelly Olynyk, 2. Ochai Agbaji, 3. Luke Kennard, 4. Brown (or trade return), 5. IQ, 6. RJ, 7. Tijane Salaun (or Cody Williams if Salaun is picked before), 8. future Pacers first.

Out:
1. Siakam - A two-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection, he won an NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.
2. OG Anunoby - Won an NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and led the league in steals while being named to his first NBA All-Defensive Team in 2023.
3. Jakob Poetl - Won the Pete Newell Big Man Award and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award in college.
4. Otto Porter jr, - Besides being washed up with injuries he was NBA champion (2022), Consensus first-team All-American (2013),Big East Player of the Year (2013), First-team All-Big East (2013). After being traded to the Jazz announced his retirement from basketball.

Masai has to trade up.

Stopped reading Veccenie few years ago due to mock being pretty bad.
The trade isn't good neither.

Why would you diss Vecenie? He has encyclopedia knowledge of the whole league. The only part that's bad is Poetl is worth more than the #9 in this draft. Other than that it is the kind of move we must make. Kennard brings shooting so there's that. Kennard's value marginally offsets an under whelming draft edition of a 9th pick. One would assume we are using this to draft another rare gem or shot at such. An upside wing.

Aside from that I like his assist % of 30 and 9 assists per 100. He will create advantages getting into the lane due to his speed. Needs to watch the turnovers at the next level

I think he's mislabeled as a 3+D prospect when I see very little defense from him. I see a heavy-footed, low-IQ defender, personally. He's the definition of boom or bust, and I'd rather not be the team to take that chance. With that said I see the huge potential people speak of. A huge shooter with an enormous wing span at 18 years of age doesn't come around often.

I'd have mixed feelings if he truly is the target of a move-up. I see the potential, but in my opinion he's so far from it. I've been a huge Devin Carter fan for this whole draft process and he's probably be my target. But I also wonder what Carter's ultimate ceiling is if the jumper improvements prove true.

Moral of the story - I suck at evaluating prospects.

I am also a bit shocked he would fall but I think it is not based on intel or anything. I still believe the Spurs will get him with one of their picks. He is a rare scorer and with his handle and speed it is going to equate to an automatic 15 points as a bench scorer. If he does drop to a reasonable range, it might be worth trading up for as long as we don't give up our starting center for it.

Regardless 9 opens up myriad possibilities we won't have 10 spots later.

Dilly with the Spurs would be there and his ideal fit. Spurs get a high-level scorer/creator and Dilly gets a huge safety net in Wemby cleaning up his mistakes.

Nbadraft.net is a crack pipe of a mock draft. Probably still shows Raps with a late first.

Spurs tend to prefer length. Last draft they took Wemby, L Miller, Cissoko and their previous 1sts were Sochan, Primo, Vassell. I wouldn't be shocked if they passed over Dillingham. I could see them going Castle at 4 and then taking a wing/big at 8.

I listened to the whole segment and it was more a product of how the draft worked out by the time it got to Memphis. They felt like the fit wasn't there for them in the draft and opted to trade back and after going through like five teams they landed on Toronto as a trade partner. It was just them having some fun making weird trades for entertainment.

I actually do like Kennard as a guy if we wanted to dump Poeltl's future salary. Kennard has a club option for this season so we could move up in the draft and have more money to play with in the future. It would be an amazing tank move, but we would be in a tough spot at C with only KO left.

Topic and Dillingham don’t have green room invitation.

Return to Toronto Raptors
