That would be funny, but I'm pretty sure the FMVP will end up going to Jaylen (and deservedly!) unless he plays really terrible for the remainder of the series. Jrue has played great and might get at least some votes, but he doesn't have the counting stats FMVP voters are usually looking for. This is such a team through and through though - they all did such a good job of trusting their teammates and giving each other opportunities to shine that you can't really say one single individual player has been carrying them. Really proud of them for this.
Jrue even today has a great case for MVP. He doesn't have the traditional counting stats like Brown but he does have a true shooting percentage of 69.6% and zero turnovers for the entire series plus a couple of great assists. +- stats are not perfect but he does have a higher plus minus for the series than Brown as well. Jrue would actually get my vote right now if I was being unbiased and just voting on who was the Celtics MVP of the series. Brown for sure deserves a lot of credit for his defense but Jrue has been great on that end. And it should go without saying, the Mavs focus their defense most on Tatum, then Brown and then everyone else.
But any close vote between Jaylen Brown and Jrue, it will probably go to Jaylen Brown simple because voters usually like points but Brown is much more associated with the Celtics than Jrue Holiday. And Brown has certainly done well enough for the vote to be close right now. I realize he is probably in the clear lead but I think a lot of that is based upon reputation, too much emphasis on scoring at times and narrative of wanting Tatum or Brown to win it instead of a first year Celtics player who isn't a superstar like KG or Moses Malone, who won it his first year with Philly.....
I get the narrative so I certainly wouldn't complain at all with Brown winning MVP... I just want someone on the Celtics to win it and it would be nice for it to be Brown or Tatum since they have been with the Celtics the longest and have faced the most scrutiny.
But Holiday deserves to make NBA HOF as far as I'm concerned. He is a better player to have in the playoffs than several PGs who are in the HOF or will be in the HOF. Yes, he isn't a good #1 option and can struggle at times as #2 option but he is an elite defender that can really play very effectively on offense if you don't try to overuse him.
