Forecasting the Magic’s Roster Turnover for Next Season
Hey RealGMs! As we reflect on the 2024 season, it’s time to look ahead and speculate on changes for the upcoming year. We had a solid core of players who logged significant minutes this past season, but with potential roster moves, player development, and new strategies, some of these players might drop out of the top 10. Who do you think will drop out of the top 10 in minutes played next season? Cast your vote and share your thoughts on why you think their role might change!

The obvious decisions are Goga, Ingles, and Bitadze. If Orlando FO has balls Cole is also added to that list.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Re: Forecasting the Magic’s Roster Turnover for Next Season
We all like Cole...but every popular scenario ends with him losing minutes - or even being moved out.
-Sign a UFA
-Trade for a lead guard
-Jett wakes up as an NBA player
-AB becomes a PG
-draft a player who can create offense
I hope we move him before his value diminishes to zero. I think he could really contribute to a team with a need for his spark. Paying $13m is fair for what he can bring, but not if he's on very limited minutes on a team facing a pile of big extensions and acquisitions.

Can one of you cap/contract wizards here remind me what the poison pill in Cole's contract is all about?

It's a mechanism to bridge the gap between a rookie extension being agreed to and going into effect. It's gone this off-season as his new contract kicks in.Audi wrote:Can one of you cap/contract wizards here remind me what the poison pill in Cole's contract is all about?

Yep...not as negative as it sounds - just that any trade needs to match his new salary for 24-25, not present.
(at least that's my understanding...it's probably more "poisonous" if, for example, you agreed to an extension this summer for $20m per for Suggs, that kicks in a whole season later, but tried to trade him during the season...I think as long as there's an extension of any kind signed off on, then the new salary must be considered in matching, cap purposes, etc.)

Got it. Thanks guys. I think I last heard about it during the season so the implications in trade scenarios seemed a bit more problematic, so that makes sense.

Re: Forecasting the Magic’s Roster Turnover for Next Season
The poll results confirm that we collectively expect relatively minor turnover, with an outside shot at a trade involving Cole and/or WCJ.
