Blazers get #1 w/Hornets
Portland receives Deandre Hunter, Clint Capela, Davis Bertans, Vasilije Micic, #1 pick
Hornets receive Jerami Grant, Matisse Thybulle, #14 pick
Hawks receive Deandre Ayton, #6 & #7 picks
Blazers continue to turn over their roster post Dame. It’s reported that they want to move up in the draft and out of the tax. This accomplishes both.
Hornets reportedly have interest in competing if for no other reason than gauging how good Lamelo actually is. With his rookie max kicking in this year, they add one of the best wing defenders in the NBA and a legit scoring option in the front court.
Hawks decide to run back the Young/Murray backcourt with a significant offensive upgrade with Ayton. This clears a good amount of salary and gets them below the tax with two top 10 picks to build out more youth.

Re: Blazers get #1 w/Hornets
I'm confused by this. Portland gets to save a billion dollars and move up in the draft? Feels like they are sucking a ton of value out of this deal.
Home run for Portland. Don't get it for the other two teams really at all, I'm sorry. Charlotte still isn't any good, but now has a lot less flexibility and missed a chance at a difference maker. Hawks for some reason swap Hunter for the more expensive Ayton after extending OO and give up the best player in the draft?

all the players feel like a total wash imo. whole thing boils down to:
ATL: #1 for #6 and #7
CHA: #6 for #14 and something??
POR: #6, #14, and something?? for #1
Make Portland give something of substance for us trading down and I honestly don't hate this if we like some players that will be available around #14. It's just an absolute mess of very expensive players making this whole trade weird.

NO.
Hawks have a defensive problem. Don't need more offense in Ayton at the expense of #1.
Hawks also don't need more youth.

If you don't like Grant then you won’t like the deal for Charlotte. I think a Grant/Thybulle tandem is a significant upgrade for the starting lineup and their overall construction. They want to win some games and I don’t see them getting better in FA.
OO got backup money for a reason. Ayton is what he is but is an offensive weapon at the center position Trea hasn’t ever had. Again, if you don’t like Ayton you won’t like this for the Hawks.
Portland saves a lot of money but it’s for their best win now players. I get contracts are traded but I think the Hornets want to win and have a bunch of salary they won’t get to use wisely this offseason if they wait for FA.

Yeah trading for a bad contract and moving down from 6 to 14 isn't my idea of a good time. Hornets pass thanks.

Charlotte doesn’t want Grant’s contract, or to move back for this package. Cut Charlotte out

I don’t think Ayton is a downgrade on defense given what Capella has been giving you. I think the Hawks do need some more firepower on the interior. As far as #1, I think Ayton plus 6&7 probably works out better.

Ayton and Grant are neutral value at best on those contracts. Pass.

I don't think Portland is looking to move up into the top 3 but is trying for a second pick in the
top 10. It's a matter of wanting two players , one of which who won't get to 14

If we can get Sarr for pieces not in the future plan, even if that means 1 lotto instant of 2, we have to do it. I just don’t think the other teams will here.

What does Charlotte expect from their space? This creates an actual, functional NBA roster to showcase Lamelo, Miller, and Williams. And the cost is moving down 8 picks in a super flat draft. Grant may be over paid but he still produces. Thybulle isn’t a bad contract by any stretch. I mean he is still one of the premier defenders in the NBA and he is shooting the ball better over the past two seasons.

Ball/Mann
Thybulle/MLE
Miller/Martin
Grant/G Williams
M Williams/Richards
I mean that’s a functional NBA roster that fits well around Ball. If Ball/Williams are as legit as Hornets fans believe, they will be in the playoffs in the East.

What if they trade Simons +14 for 8 if the team knows Clingon will be there at 7?
Gives them a chance to draft one of Cody Williams, Salaun, Holland or Knecht (whoever they want)
at 8, for none of those players will be there at 14
Spurs get to pick someone like Topic at 14 and get Simons for the last two years of his contract

I’m on board with this too. It also feels more realistic. Heck, even if Clingan isn’t available. I’ll trade Simons to have both Cody and Salaun.

I'll repeat. We aren't moving down 8 spots for the negative contract of Jerami Grant - regardless of how you want to frame it.
