Didn't Shannon have some character red flags before though? I also don't think we should just hand-wave the age concerns. Dude has been around forever and there certainly could be some "23-year old man amongst 18-19 year old kids" energy behind his sudden surge in production. Kind of similar concerns I have with McCullar. Sure, once in a while you'll find a Brogdon. But most of the time, you're getting a Chris Duarte, Josh Huestis, or MarShon Brooks where it becomes obvious that there was a reason why they stayed in college so long...

Glad he’s been found not guilty
From what I read earlier it seemed very likely that was going to beat the case and that he didn’t do anything at all
Doubt he falls to 33 now but at 23 I wouldn’t be mad either unless one of the bigs I’m high on is still there (Ware, Holmes, Edey)

That's big news. It's still in the back of your mind that he still conceivably did it. There was weird things on both sides, especially in regards to the DNA aspect. Because the defense wanted it excluded, & it's like what DNA? It was a digital penetration allegedly.
We took on Ruben Patterson with a full on 1st degree rape, or attempted, conviction. So it would be compromising integrity a lot less than that regardless, fwiw.
I pointed out how Shannon and McCullar are apples to oranges, because Shannon had an injury his true junior yr to allow him to play a lot less games and minutes than normal it appears. Then Immediately after he transferred from Texas Tech he enjoyed a big boost, unlike McCullar. Shannon was also well ahead of him, at least offensively, while he was there. As a true soph averaged 13 ppg, 36% from 3, 45% from field. So not just a guy bullying younger guys in his career.

Is it too early for someone to create a poll?

I am willing to bet he goes before that.JonHeist wrote:Glad he’s been found not guilty

If Norm Powell had played college ball until he was about to turn 24, I suspect he'd have made a couple all-american teams too. But Norm Powell would still be a pretty good pick at 23. Would you be as thrilled at 10? Probably not.

I think you can say that about anyone taken at #10 in this draft, though.

Or anybody in general... it's a truism. Later = better pick. I think you see what I'm driving at, though. Even in this draft, I would not take him that high. He's a wing who's extremely fast with the ball, but not much of a playmaker, not much of a shooter, and certainly a good enough defender in college but not specialist-level either. He is **** fast, though.

What if Norm Powell was a couple inches taller and faster. That’s a hell of a player. I don’t see all-star upside, but I do see a really good player in there.
The thing I like most is his physicality, so many players who’ve had the physical tools, completely shy away from contact on both sides. That’s the **** that drives me crazy. From what I’ve seen, he seems to embrace it.
24 is old as hell for rookie, but I think he can play right away, and may flourish with the spacing of the league.

From what I read on the case earlier, im not particularly surprised he was found not guilty. He’s probably my number 1 guy then. It’s been awhile since ive seen a player in college play like he did and I was wondering the whole time why he wasn’t a top 5 guy, before I saw his age and the looming case.

The reverse is, if Dez Bane had declared after his sophomore yr, he may have been a lotto pick, or should have in retrospect.
Devin Vassell did, after a similar season, and went 11th.
Terrence Shannon had a comparable sophomore season to them. They're better than Powell & closer to Shannon in measurements. Simply making a decision to stay doesn't make you inherently worse or lower upside, & doomed to be a role guy like Powell.

Shannon was 46th on Vecenie’s big board in June of 2021, so he’s at least been a viable prospect for a number of years now.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread - June 26/27
In the Bucks news thread I said that as strictly basketball prospects I think Shannon is better than Dalton Knecht who is top-10 in most mock drafts. I still think Knecht will be taken ahead of him, but I think Shannon goes mid-high teens.
I think the age concerns are real because he is so physically developed and often did look like the proverbial man amongst boys. While I'm skeptical that he can be the 3 level scorer he was in college, I do think he's definitely got skills that will translate, foremost among them being his outside and midrange shot.
My biggest concern with him for the Bucks is how does a player like him that's the 1st or 2nd option translate to playing with Giannis and Dame. How much does his effectiveness wane if he's the 4th or 5th option or does he do the little things and modify his game so that his overall effectiveness doesn't wane even in his different role?

I don't think it's prudent until we get little_cleo's tiers.

At 23 there are way too many choices.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I can see a Dame-Dre-Midds-Giannis-Dunn lineup presenting some very unique problems for NBA offenses.
