Kyrie didn't deliver in the playoffs but there's no evidence to support he's the reason for Tatum's regression, or anybody for that matter. Smart shared the backcourt and got better this year. Brown was better. Hayward was not fully healthy. Horford was as good as ever. The team failed in the playoffs as well the coaching staff.

Trust your eyes. You know Tatum either slumped or just ain't that good. Stop blaming others.

Trust your eyes,

Irving shut out Tatum all season especially in the playoffs. When Tatum did get the ball he forced shots because he didn’t know when he would get the ball back again. Irving killed the ball movement and easy flow to the offense with his selfishness and it all trickledowned from the top.

Expect more of the same if the Celtics resign Kyrie for 5 more years

If we're being honest, if Kyrie comes back, the next move is to trade Tatum so you wouldn't see more of the same at all.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

It would be the biggest mistake of Ainge’s GM career to hook his wagon to Kyrie and trade Tatum and/or Brown

I'm with you. I think they've already poisoned their rebuild by exposing the young guys to two years of IT and then two years of Kyrie as your best players. IT was at least more upbeat, but both of them were dangerously all about themselves over the team. All about O over D too, when it really came down to it. Terrible, terrible influences on young players -- and you hear that now with all the grousing stated, rumored and observed from JT, JB, and TR, especially. At least it looked like Williams hadn't picked it up. But another year of Kyrie and I think I'll be off the C's for a while.

I don't begrudge you your opinion. I'm just stating that you wouldn't have to worry about Kyrie further affecting Tatum's growth because they likely wouldn't be on the same team.

You act as though Tatum is entitled to star treatment. He's nobody yet but a young player on the uptick. HE has to play within the offense not the other way around.

You want stars on the team or do you want a bunch of good players not going to win us championship???

Can't have it both ways. I'd rather have Kyrie than some unknowns.

At least 20 more before #7 and #0 go up to the rafters; a record to last many decades.

All that with a player not dribbling to the left
Jrue, White, JB, JT, KP. Brad’s Masterpiece.

Amazing thread. Mad props to the OP! And: Tatum grew into being an All-NBA 4 — hooray.

Best thread bump ever. 7 and 0 in the rafters is a given. With all the negativity they are able to do something that no Celtics team has done in my lifetime. End a finals series in less than 6 games. The last time they did was 1965 when they beat Lakers 4-1. Only time Celtics swept a finals was 1959.

The great Larry Bird in 1986 playing on what was considered the greatest team ever (at that time) rolled into the finals with a dominant 11-1 record and got lucky in that they faced an overachieving young Rockets team. It took them 6 games to finish off the Rockets. Did anybody call him or McHale ‘mental midgets’ like we have heard said about Jaylen Brown more than once? Even the great Bulls with MJ never swept a finals or had a 3-0 lead. The very experienced big 3 in 2008 had an overwhelming talent advantage in every playoff round and struggled in every round to get the job done.

These guys are not mental midgets. They are all time Celtic greats who are taking care of business the way no Celtics team has done since the great Bill Russell.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Both guys are very, very far from even being stars in this league. Brown has the heart but has a lot of flaws in his game..Tatum has less flaws but is soft and doesn't strike me as a guy who will work hard enough to maximize his potential..Frazier came in for about 3 minutes and hit more 3's than Tatum hit all series. It obviously takes time to put it all together but after 90 games this year I just don't see it..Tatum regressed a lot in my eyes. After what we saw last year, his best game this year was a 30pt game in a loss against Brooklyn. Damn.

One is 22 the other is 20

I know.

Never said they wouldn't be good players..but I'd be surprised if they led anybody to a championship one day. Never saw superstar potential in Brown and no longer see it on Tatum.

Good thing they have a coach who brings out the best in them ... oh, wait, you have a very low opinion of their current coach too.

2019. Go eat a bag of green dicks. I’ve been one of the biggest Jaylen Brown stans in this forum for like 3 years now. Foh.
