But yeah, I don't know if anyone can save Ausar's shot. He's so far from where even Herb Jones or Lonzo Ball started.

I wonder how Suggs did it. That's probably the biggest transformation I've seen from a guy that was shooting a lot of attempts even when he was terrible.

As a rookie Suggs shot 21% on 4.1 attempts per game. 2nd year he shot 32.7% on 3.8 attempts. This year he shot 40% on 5.1 attempts per game.

Ausar shot 19% on 1.8 attempts per game.

It's actually crazy looking at how many 3's Suggs took as a rookie while shooting 20% lol. More than double Ausar and even that felt like a lot sometimes.

Who can we hire so that he's not afraid of contact?

Relevant to Pistons, I'm actually glad we got this guy. Seems like a step in the right direction, but I hope we don't compound our shooting woes this draft on the off chance he can fix this entire roster. Would be interesting to see who jumps the most this season.

Vinson worked as an assistant under Williams in New Orleans for five seasons. However, it’s worth noting that Detroit was one of the worst three-point shooting teams last season, and the hiring of Vinson fills a need after he worked with Herb Jones, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and other Pelicans during his time in New Orleans under Langdon.

The Pistons have not yet announced, with formality, that Monty Williams will be back next season as Detroit's head coach.

New Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon, in fact, has yet to hold his introductory news conference after it emerged he was getting the job in late May.

Yet one source with knowledge of Detroit's thinking told The Stein Line that Friday's ESPN report about the Pistons hiring Fred Vinson away from New Orleans as an assistant coach is a "clear signal" that Williams will be back for Year 2 of his six-year contract worth nearly $80 million.

The source described it as "the likely outcome."

I know Belien's head coaching record, but specifically when it came to shooting, I'd like to see the record that shows he can fix NBA shots like Vinson has.

As far as I knew it was basically Chip Engelland, Fred Vinson, and everybody else. With Chip and Fred as the only guys with a real track record of consistent, trackable results.

Which doesn't mean 100% success rate, but more of a "If Fred can't fix him, no one can".

I also think Ausar's shot is so terrible that it might be worth a full re-work. With someone like Ivey, he's close enough to being an OK shooter that you probably don't risk that and instead find ways to make incremental improvements based on what he already does.

Also just a reminder that over the last two months of the season Ausar shot 27% from three on 2.3 attempts per game (16 game sample size). Not groundbreaking numbers but a step in the right direction given how terrible he shot from the perimeter earlier in the season.

I think the key is to focus on corner threes first and becoming proficient there so his defender realizes he has to guard him, and it unclogs the paint to allow guys like Cade and Ivey to operate with a bit more space.

If Ausar can get good on corner threes *and* get better at ball handling (an underrated hole in his game) then he can be playable on offense.

I have a feellng that Monty is back but with a very short leash. Maybe 20-25 games if its not working.

Good hire. Need to get the most of your assets. Not going to turn everyone into Steph, but hopefully bring up most of our young core to league average.

I like the way Langdon is filling out his backroom staff. He is making logical, sensible hires. Getting a proven shooting coach to work with a young team should pay dividends somewhere.

On an Ausar sidenote, if his shot can't be fixed, what is his long term projection? Is it Michael Kidd-Gilchrist?
