I am expecting them to offer IHart 4 years at the maximum early bird rights deal, with a player opt probably year two because you can’t do a player option after 1 year on an early bird rights deal. So he would have both security and the option to opt out for more once the Knicks have his full bird rights.

I honestly think the rumors are to give the reporters something to do.

iHart / Robinson
Randle / Bogs
OG / Hart
DDV / Caruso
Brunson / Rokas

We extend this team's "window" with all the extensions... we address bench playmaking.... we improve our defense/size... and we hold on to Bogs for a potential Feb '25 deadline trade for another upgrade. I can dig it...

McBride and picks for Caruso... nah, I'm good.

McBride, #25, #38, Diakete, Sims for Caruso aka "OG lite"... he's like getting our own Derrick White (not an exact archetype but you know what I mean... 2-way winning player...like OG was for us... and you know how that catapulted us forward)...

You and I forget who now but yall are higher on Caruso than I am. He's a really good defender, definitely. But he's not someone who can create for others, he's not someone who shoots off the dribble or good at driving to the basket. He definitely can't shoot like DWhite. Just me, but I don't see him as a game changer... not denying he's a better defender than both DDV & Deuce but he offers little on offense. Imo, he's a 3 & D player. Your proposal isn't awful but I'd prefer to see how much better Deuce can get.

Not with og, since they have to wait 6 months after trade. June 30.
That's for extension though. Depends on when he opts out and becomes a free agent then maybe they can talk/agree earlier.grey area.

Is that the official day he can sign or the day they are allowed to talk to him?

We don't need another guy that can't do anything with the ball. He's going to be a free agent at the end of next season, so instead of having a guy on a value deal like McBride we'll have to pay him $15-20 million per to come off the bench? It makes absolutely no sense to go after Caruso, we need more offense, not another limited offensive player. He's not like White, he doesn't create with the dribble like White can.

Caruso helped the Lakers win the bubble title. They weren't the same after his departure. He was inserted into Chicago's starting line-up and was the engine (along with Derozan) that helped them get to the play-in. He's a perennial DPOY candidate. When you run into Boston, MIL, PHI, or IND in the playoffs next year, having two DPOY type players throw at Tatum, Brown, Maxey, Lillard, Giannis, etc. to slow them down for stretches while Brunson and Randle go to work on the other end... is a recipe for advancement. IMO, of course.

People underestimated Hart and OG's impact before they starting playing with us. The same would hold true for Caruso. And he's got 4-5 more years of ball left in him. Plenty for several title runs... he checks a lot of boxes for us. A true Nova-like player. I believe this shrewd front office will give him a strong look.

iHart's keeping all his Knicks stuff on his social media pages so that's a promising sign for him staying.

-> I heard we can talk to our players about extensions as soon as the finals are over but other teams have to wait until the end of this month to approach them... big advantage...players can't officially sign until free agency officially opens up at the end of this month

-> I think we give iHart and OG opt out's for the final season of their contracts so they have the flexibility to take advantage of the cap spikes should they choose to do so. I'd say it's 95% that both remain Knicks long-term.

Much like MIlos Vujanic (who showed about as much excitement in being drafted as someone watching paint dry) and unlike a lot of other European players that have come to the NBA and found success, he's thus far never voiced a strong desire to play in the NBA. He was drafted in 2021 which means it'll be 3 years in a little over a week that he was drafted. In that time he's shown up in how many Knick summer leagues? Now if the Knicks drafted him when he was very young then ok but he'll be 24 this season. If he was serious then you'd think he'd put the NBA higher on his priority list than international play. He really hasn't that I'm aware of.

He has.

It was decided (I assume between his agent and the Knicks) to develop overseas. He also had a bit of a down year this season, so I think the Knicks aren't chomping at the bits to get him here, either.

He has what? Shown eagerness to come to the NBA? That he plans to eventually play in the NBA? Vujanic said he planned to as well. But did not sound like it was a life goal of his back then. That's what I'm referencing. Some guys just want the perfect situation before they jump and it's highly unlikely he'd get that here.

He wants to play in the NBA. He said so in a few interviews.

His contract with Barcelona has opt-outs, which obviously geared towards opting out into the NBA. Common, yes, but he doesn't need to be walking around in NY/USA apparel to demonstrate he wants to play in the NBA. He skipped Summer League last season because it made absolutely zero sense to compete for a spot with JB, Grimes, IQ, DD, and Deuce on the team. Yet, the Knicks could have still brought him up. They bear the responsibility to bring him up.

Not faulting him for skipping Summer league in favor of the Olympics this year, either. If he's in the Olympics and impresses, I think he'll be on the training camp roster.

A lot of signs to me point to IHart and OG coming back. I keep thinking the odd person out is Bojan cause of that 2nd apron. The idea he is here to match salaries for a star completely ignores how hard doing a trade is for a team over the 2nd apron.

They would be locked into the team, more or less. they can't get buyout players, they can't trade for players with higher salaries than what they send out. They lose the ability to offer some mid-level contracts, they lose flexibility with draft picks, and if they stay in the second apron, their first round picks get put as close to #30 as possible.

Once the Knicks pass the 2nd apron they can't improve their team's roster almost at all once outside of trading for a star who makes less money than the money they are sending out. So if their is any questions about the team working there is nothing they can do but send out parts to be absorb by another team.

They could do that, but it just goes against everything that has made this FO successful until now.

I can't imagine a situation where OG leaves. The difference between a contender and pretender. Not having full Birds on iHart gave me pause but it does seem like he has prioritized a return.

The numbers are definitely getting tight. If the Bojan money puts us where we can't do anything... smh. Why not just let Evan expire? I suppose we shall see. This FO has been pretty good with $$$ so far so maybe they have something.

He averaged 6.5ppg for the Lakers in that playoff run, and Rondo was more impactful than him during the finals, should we go out and sign him? You're talking about him starting for the Bulls, he would be a bench player here, his next contract is going to see him getting $12-18 million per season, which is entirely too much for a team that already has a bench player who will be making $20 million per. There is a salary cap and a new CBA, for what he's paid and what he does McBride is more impactful at $4 million per than Caruso will be on his next deal.

It makes no sense, he'd be paid more than the starter, DDV would be making less than him. You're caught up in names, McBride is fine, there's no need to go after Caruso. The new CBA kicks in 2 weeks, OG & IHart are going to get paid, Brunson and Randle are due extension, you don't trade for Caruso.

Being hard cap for one season isn't the issue if you're comfortable with your team. If you've heard anything from our coaching staff and players, it seems to me that the FO will stay put and only go after legitimate upgrades. Aside from the JB/Randle extension, all this is pretty much moot with the cap jumping the way it's projected for next season and the following.

The way I see it they thought Bojan would play better. Also didn’t they trade for him after Randle was out, but before they knew Randle needed surgery? While Bojan struggled here and then got injured himself, it’s not hard to see why they thought trading Fournier and Grimes for Bojan made sense.

However, when looking at the reality of the 2nd apron, and considering the results was lackluster, why should they handcuff themselves to keep Bojan. Let him go and get a MLE player.

Once you pass the 2nd apron you can’t go after legitimate upgrades. The FO might do this, but every time they get to comfortable with their roleplayers they have a rough season. They should try to improve even if it’s just their 8th man.

The FO will do what it does, it just seems out of character for them, except when they make a move they later regret.

Hart makes more than DDV... and he's a bench player FYI... Ginobli made more than lots of the Spurs' starters... Clarkson, Jamal Crawford, and dozens and dozens of others. Caruso making a few million more than starter DDV isn't a reason to stay away from him. We're trying to win a title in 2025, 2026 and/or 2027. That's the immediate goal. Caruso over McBride puts us in stronger position to win a title in 2025 and, perhaps, beyond. It's fine if you don't agree. That's just my position because I put a premium on winning, experienced high IQ players who are excellent defenders and excellent team-players. A healthy core and Caruso puts us right up there with Boston and whoever comes out of the West IMO.

Why? Seems like a chance to get a back-up guard without a trade or giving up anything. Like a free addition. I don't know what he'd to to the cap though.

Pretty much this. Individually he had a great World Cup performance and I'm sure he was eager to get a bigger role to produce in Barcelona, but unfortunately their new coach Grimau (who's already fired) didn't give him more responsibilities or minutes, not to mention a mid-season signing of Ricky Rubio which further reduced Rokas' minutes. What I saw from him in the World Cup though kind of made me a believer again (of him as an NBA prospect). I think he can still be a solid backup in the NBA. Perhaps not super exciting, but he wasn't a 1st round pick to begin with. And yes, this latest local interview certainly made it clear that he wants to come to the NBA to try to EARN a spot, and not be given some promises about guaranteed playing time.
