Klay Thompson Plans To Test Free Agency

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jun 17, 2024 6:39 pm

Klay Thompson has shown interest in exploring external options as no extension with the Golden State Warriors appears imminent.

The Warriors have made it clear to Thompson they would like him back. Golden State offered an extension to Thompson before the start of the season.

Thompson and the Orlando Magic have mutual interest.

Over the weekend, Thompson unfollowed the Warriors on social media.

Thompson will join the Bahamian national basketball teams for its training camp in Houston this week. Thompson, however is not expected to get clearance to compete for the Bahamas in Olympic qualification this summer.

As a Warriors fan this is great for both sides at this point of Klays career. Just don’t think Orlando makes the most sense but I guess Klay doesn’t care for anymore rings.

I think it's cute that you believe GSW have a brighter future than Orlando. It was a great run but Steph probably has his last ring. For what it's worth, I don't think Klay has a shot at a ring in either location. GSW is old and falling apart; ORL is still several years away.

What makes you think he still cares about rings if he stays in Golden State? At least the magic are trending up. Can’t say the same about the dubs

Dude is washed. They paid him well when his production warranted it. They don't owe him anything at this point. They better put better players around Curry.

I'm with you brother. I love the doubters. They were just as loud in 2022 and see how that turned out?

As for Klay, godspeed young Klay! Find your destiny! It may be in Orlando.

The headline is an interesting way to say "The Warriors won't resign Klay Thompson"

GSW - 46-36 in the West
ORL - 47-35 in the East

Better chance to win in Orlando.

The Magic make a lot of sense. People say the timeline might not match up but I disagree. Give Klay 40 mill for two years (overpay sure, but ORL can afford it). He will definitely help with shooting and veteran leadership. Then when Banchero and others are up for extensions his contract will come off the books.

Never once mentioned that GSW has a brighter future than GSW…Personally don’t think GSW is going anywhere for a while. Let the young guys play and mature. Klay needs to leave for that to happen. GSW has been well over the tax for almost half a decade and the new CBA rules definitely don’t make it easier for GSW to believe it makes sense to retain Klay. It just doesn’t make sense given how they are trending.

Not discrediting the Magic, I’m a fan. I do believe the Warriors will hopefully try what they can to maximize Steph’s window. Klay evidently is not what he once was. It makes sense for him to go. For Magic they need back court scoring and Klay would have a giant role and they have enough assets to continue to tinker that roster. Future is definitely bright. As for warriors a lot needs to change. Hopefully letting go of Klay starts a domino effect that helps them for the better. I don’t think pointing out record tells the whole story. Despite Magic having the better record the East imo is evidently a lot weaker than the west. If you swap teams you could argue warriors could possibly be one of the top teams in the East and the argument wouldn’t stand. Reality is that’s not the case but I don’t think the warriors will falter too much. Maybe not a championship roster but hopefully a roster that can compete. Maybe they should finally try getting a center…

Klay turned down a two-year 48 million dollar extension.

None of the teams I wanna see him on have money like that. You just can't see him or better yet don't wanna see him go to some lottery or even upstart team. You wanna see him be some
final piece for a team like the Mavs, even if he's the 5th starter at this age. Oh well, father time

I was responding to your comment... "I guess Klay doesn’t care for anymore rings." Which sounds like you are saying that if Klay leaves he won't win any more rings.

My guess is that Klay cares very much about winning. I also think he has a better shot of doing that on 20+ other teams than in GSW. What if he took on the Hayward role in OKC?
