Rockets probably.

Re: 2018 Rockets vs 2024 Celtics
I feel like the current Celtics are the apotheosis of what the Rockets were trying to build. 5-out spacing on offense, 4/5 switching on defense, its Morey ball to a T.
I'd pick Celtics pretty handily, I think they'd match up really well with Houston on both ends, 5-6 games maybe.

Am I misunderstanding your comment or is the use of "antithesis" here reflecting the opposite of what you want it to?

CP3 gets injured midway through, both sides get to act like they won

If you could guarantee Chris Paul’s health I might narrowly take the Rockets, but you cannot so it is the Celtics.

I'll wait to make sure the Celtics actually beat the worse version of the Rockets in the Mavs, but I'd probably pick them with the depth of talent after the top 2 compared to Capela, Ariza, etc.

Given the rest - particularly "its Morey ball to a T", it sounds like they maybe meant "apotheosis" - an apex example, an extension, a fuller realization, perhaps not perfection but that type of idea.

Re: 2018 Rockets vs 2024 Celtics
Yeah we're a bad matchup for an iso heavy offense halfcourt offense like the Rockets. We struggle to defend high paced, transition, motion offenses like the Pacers more. We have the defensive personel for Cp3 and Harden too and Kp and even Horford can make Capela useless and play him off the floor like Draymond did. Pj at the 5 is def not working on us
i will say tho Ariza and Pj will give the Jays alot of problems on defense
Cp3 is def getting injured in that series too w/ how much space he has to cover. I dont think its a coincidence Mitchell and Haliburton both got hurt in our series and now Luka is laboring more than he did all Wolves series and then a week off. We really tax and put stress on your feet on defense w/ our spacing and actions

Re: 2018 Rockets vs 2024 Celtics
I voted Celtics but I'll just be the guy to mention Porzingis' injury proneness because no one else has. Understandably he's not as important to the Celtics as CP3 is to Houston though

My vote depends on CP3's health.
If we assume he gets injured like he did that season, I'd pick the Celtics in 7.

Re: 2018 Rockets vs 2024 Celtics
Is this assuming the following?
Porzingis no calf injury
Paul no hamstring injury
Mbah a Moute no shoulder injury
if so, I'm honestly not sure who wins this game. I started watching in 2002 and the fully healthy version of that 2018 Rockets team may be the best non-KD Warrior team I've ever seen.

Yes that is correct, I'm an engineer not an English major hahaha.

Celtics in 5 accounting for Cp3 and Kp inevitable injuries
Celtics in 6 if both teams remain healthy

Re: 2018 Rockets vs 2024 Celtics
Boston is more complete. Really versatile, really athletic, really smart.
They don't really have weaknesses. I think they could win a war of attrition on the Rockets who relied so much on two players for dominant basketball.
The Celtics are so good in a drop. But the Rockets killed every drop coverage they faced in this time period.
I think it'd be really close and Boston wins in 7 at home or something. They'd have the energy. I think their depth and workload balance on both ends get them the win.
I don't see any way either team can win decisively. Too good.

Re: 2018 Rockets vs 2024 Celtics
Seems to me that this is probably something that would be decided by injury. Fully healthy, I think I’d take the Celtics. They just were a bit better and were a more complete team. But assuming health is a big assumption for both these teams. If the Rockets were healthy and the Celtics didn’t have Porzingis, then I’d go Rockets, and vice versa if the Celtics were healthy and the Rockets didn’t have Chris Paul. If both those guys were out, then I’d be back to going for the Celtics. The most likely outcome is both guys get injured at some point, and the series is decided by who is injured for more of the series.

There's like no team in history better built to beat the Rockets than 24 Celtics. The Rockets would have a great chance against 23 Nuggets.

Re: 2018 Rockets vs 2024 Celtics
18' Rockets win. The Rockets have a much better defense than anyone the Celtics have faced and would make Boston's offense struggle with their superb defenders: Tucker, Ariza, CP, Capela, Mboute. CP and Harden would torch the Celtic's defense like they did against GS who had numerous superior defenders.
18' Rockets would also have home court this hypothetical series (65 wins vs Celtic's 64)
