The Wizards can fit Payton in an existing trade exception. We don't even want any future 2nds. The only thing we'd want is to lower the protections on the 2030 GSW 1st to top 14 protected instead of the top 20 protected. Interested in that?
Yeah I'd be fine with this.
If that is so, then it is an easy yes for the Wizards.

Re: 1-year remaining salary dumps
The Rockets have:
FVV: He has two more seasons left on the deal but the 2nd season is a team option.
Stephen Adams: Expiring
But I would think these salaries would be more for trading (with a pick or two) etc etc, not for salary dumps.

Re: 1-year remaining salary dumps
The Raptors seem like contenders here.
Bruce Brown expiring $23M
Chris Boucher expiring $10.8
Traded Player Exception of $10.5M to absorb contracts.
The Raps and GSW seem like trade partners to me.
Wiggins, Moody, GP2, (maybe 2nd?)
for
Brown, Boucher, TPE
^ done as 2 trades, and accomplishes a lot for both teams. Warriors also open up the full MLE.
Steph / Podz
Brown / Klay
Kuminga / (MLE)
Draymond / Boucher
Looney / TJD

Yeah I mean it kinda seems like a win-win to me. Wizards get a slightly better chance at getting an actual 1st out of the Poole deal and all it costs them is eating one year of a sub-MLE salary. GS gets enough room under the tax/apron line to re-sign Klay and use the full MLE.

I heard on somebody's pod this week there was a belief he would decline his option in exchange for a 3 year deal for more total gtd money but to knock his annual down. Were they just inventing this?
By the same note, they might try and dump Looney's gtd amount as well?
I read that a few times, GP2 had stated that during his exit interview and I read somewhere he had casually confirmed it, something like a 3/10 or 3/12. I could see him doing it based on his injury history - he's missed a LOT of games the last couple years, I think it's around 98 games missed the last 2 seasons - and a LOT of games the couple years before 2021-22

I'd rather do a smaller deal focused on GP2 and the TPE to be honest. I'm not ready to give up on Moody in a salary dump like this.

Yeah I’m sure. But Moody is basically the only real good asset coming from GSW. Wiggins is closer to neutral.
There’s also cap logic to moving Moody. GSW wants to duck the tax for 2 years to avoid the repeater tax, right?
Moody needs to get paid the following season, along with Kuminga. Hollinger said Kuminga might get close to $30M/year, if I recall correctly. You obviously pay Kuminga over Moody.

Oh for sure, I don't think Toronto would do this deal without Moody. I just think that given what his market value is right now, I'd rather see if he can take a step forward this year and then try and re-sign him or let him walk if he gets more than we're comfortable paying.
He's probably only worth a couple 2nds right now, but if someone offered a late 1st I'd probably do it just to reset the rookie clock. But I don't think anyone would offer that at this point.

Reasonable approach. I think LAL pays him if he wants MLE like money. Part of me , thinks D-Lo is still searching for an opportunity like what he got with the Nets vs being a role player behind LeBron/ AD
I don't think there's any chance DLo gets just MLE money. I'm not a fan, but his value's definitely higher than that.
I call making 2 or 3 million more than MLE MLE like money. Essentially a contract like Rui has.

Re: 1-year remaining salary dumps
I'm going to add Devonte Graham to this list. He has a small partial guarantee, so he shouldn't be expensive to dump. But if the Spurs intend to use cap space this summer, it'd be irresponsible to not get rid of the guarantee.

Yeah. He’s about 20% more than this years, higher, MLE. And now that the MLE is tradeable, and Rui simply can’t fit into it.

GPII just opted into that 9M -- Maybe they will read this thread.
Cheers
