Love IQ and want him with the Raptors long term. That being said, we need to be careful not to overpay a guy we don't yet know can lead a winning team. I know the cap is going up but we still have to pay Barnes, who will undoubtedly get a max deal.
My happy place for IQ is $125-135M/5yrs.

The good news is we generally don't overpay (unless it's smaller contracts like Birch / Thad etc)
Our bigger extensions (FVV, Trent, Poeltl) all end up being pretty reasonable. We usually just hand out Player Options like candy
Very rarely do I look at our cap sheet and I'm like "wow, we have bad contracts".

Unless you sign an aging star to a supermax extension, it's kinda hard to have truly terrible contracts these days now that they cut the max years down to 5. Guys can still be overpaid, but not by a lot nor for very long.

I recall guys like OG, Powell, and DeRozan were all considered somewhat of an overpay when they initially signed their extensions but they all ended up being good contracts by the end. I expect similar for Quickley's contract.

And Siakam and Lowry lol. With a constantly rising cap almost every time a new contract is signed there are shouts of overpay, but very often they end up good to great deals.

Re: IQ Contract Predictions
My prediction is 25 million per on a 4 year deal. I think there is a chance the contract is flat or even descending in value. So starts at 30 million for next season.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

This has been true. Let's hope it stays that way. Though, they generally look like overpays at the time of the signing but after a little while, they end up looking neural or good.

It was a bit surprising - but in retrospect fine - to max Pascal. What really hurt us is when he made all-NBA before his extension kicked in and we had to pay him the super max. Raps couldn't afford to sign depth pieces after that.
