But for simplicity of the changes, I use this document a lot. I saved a copy to my Dropbox which is why I can do quickly respond to these related questions.

Hoopshype draft comments say Stix is expected to opt out and that if Obi is re-signed, Walker may be shopped. I'm not buying that but we'll see.

Yeah,.. I saw that. I kinda read that more as 'wishful thinking' on the part of 'several rival executives'?....

It was from Michael Scotto’s recent mock draft on Hooopshype, and specifically says that “rival GM’s suppose that Walker could be moved…” which doesn’t tell us anything. It specifically doesn’t have pacers sources or any reporting in what the Pacers would consider or want to do.

The only way Walker gets moved is if another big star is acquired like Siakam was. I personally don’t see the Pacers making a big move this offseason.

I think they roll with Walker plus Kendall Brown on the roster and possibly Tshiebwe if they don’t acquire a more established center.

I really think they want to run it back and make minor improvements possibly replacing Smith, McDermott, and Johnson.

It is on. Teams can sign their own free agents now. The draft is next week.

Small, but important nit. Teams can negotiate with their own free agents. They cannot sign them, or even acknowledge publicly if they come to terms.

Also, historically, the league has encouraged teams to give championship teams a day or two to celebrate before breaking news. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a couple days before we hear news on much.

Team announcements, sure. But Woj/Shams will still get their leaks.

Either way, Signings (other than some vet minimums and draft pick signings) can’t be formalized until after the moratorium on 7/6.

if Stix makes a decision, can that be announced? I get that if he opts out and we make him a higher offer, we can't announce the offer but can we announce that he is or isn't a free agent?

Hollinger has an ARTICLE up on the Athletic talking free agency. He's got a Siakam blurb:

The Pacers likely had a strong idea of Siakam’s contract expectations when they traded multiple first-round picks to acquire him midseason. It might not be a five-year max; it seems more likely that it’s only for four years and that it might be at a slight trim from the maximum $42.3 million starting salary he’s eligible to receive in 2024-25. Maybe there’s a partial guarantee in there or some incentives that boost him to the full max. (Incentives can be up to 15 percent of the contract value, so for instance, Siakam could have a $36 million base salary with $6.3 million in incentives for 2024-25.)

Those are the fuzzy points that need clarity before there’s a deal, but in the big picture, Siakam wants to be in Indiana. The Pacers need him back and there isn’t an obvious backup suitor waiting around. They’ll get something done.

It would be nice if it was something less than the full max. Haliburton has his full max kicking in with the all-NBA nod so getting a discount somewhere would be nice for future flexibility.

I think the opt in/opt out has to be? At least the decision has to be made by sometime on 29 June.

“Reports” that Jalen is opting in or out can leak anytime. He and his agent can speak to it openly. He team cannot announce or acknowledge anything publicly until Stix and his agent file any necessary paperwork to opt out, or the deadline to opt out has passed.

but July 6 isn't relevant. It would be nice for the team to have an informal indication before the draft but they will know before open season.

For Jalen? No, I didn’t say it was. His deadline to opt out is before the league moratorium.

Signings and such? July 6th, or he end of the moratorium is very relevant.

didn't mean to suggest you said anything about Jalen and July 6. I was just repeating my understanding to be sure I had it right. so we'll know in June if he's a free agent but if we want to sign him for a higher amount, that won't be announced until July 6 but could be leaked.

No worries. And correct, in terms of factual releases. We may hear early reports from Agness, Tony East, Woj, Shams, etc, though, as hose are unofficial reports.

So, Scott’s story on field house files indicates they’re basically just negotiating a partial guarantee on the final year. :dontknow:
