Cuban is out?
Has it even been 6 months since the club was sold and Cuban said he'd still be POBO and now the Wiretap item says he's out of the loop.
Yeah it seemed too good to be true for him that these rich and powerful families would give him billions but let him keep the reins.
Is that good news or bad news for the franchise?
In any event, he got his billions but in a year or two, he may rue selling the team because it was so core to his identity, at least his public identity.
I heard Adelson's real reason for buying the franchise was to get a foothold towards legalization of gambling in Texas.

Not sure what Cuban is really thinking, probably just pride...
He said he's still in charge of the BB side after the sale, Dumont immediately issued statement that he (Dumont) is the CEO and he makes the decisions.
Anyone reading between the lines and what the headlines actually were telling, Cuban didn't have free cash flow to support expensive rosters, his main wealth came from his stake in the Mavs, he did the right thing for himself and the team, I respect him for that.

The new owners are tying that big sports team to whatever big casino resort they're building in Dallas. If that doesnt work, then a move to Vegas would also be a possibility for a bigger market. Las Vegas Mavericks just has a different tune to it.

Although it remains to be seen Dumont and new ownership are with team building. Normally new owners are impatient and try to buy their way to a championship immediately. See Balmer and Ishbia. Also Cuban himself when he was new.

Cuban is the clown of the team now, the stupid guy seated next to players. No more. Luckily for the Mavs.

Re: Cuban is out?
I’m surprised there are still people that don’t know this, especially Mavs fans, and ESPECIALLY Mavs fans that live in Dallas. This is pretty much common knowledge. Cuban holds a minority stake in the team (less than 25% I believe). He has zero say in anything basketball related. He’s basically a glorified fan at this point.
Shortly after buying the team a local radio station (105.3 The Fan) interviewed Patrick Dumont who is the son-in-law of the Mavs new owner Miriam Adelson. She’s the owner of the Sands Casino and apparently has casinos all around the globe (or flat plain if Kyrie is reading this). He clarified that he is the owner and Nico Harrison is the GM, and that Nico is in charge of all things basketball.
Rumors are Cuban sold the team because Miriam Adelson is the best person to spearhead getting gambling legalized in Texas. Cuban doesn’t have that much pull but the Adelson family does. They donante hundreds of millions of dollars to the Republican party (and to Trump specifically). The other rumor is that Cuban dumped a bulk of his money into crypto and lost almost all his money. So he HAD to sell the team just to get back to where he was financially. Both make sense to be honest.
For those wondering the vote for gambling in Texas is the in 2025. The Adelson family has already purchased land in Dallas to build the new casino/arena. It’s on the same plot of land that the old Texas Stadium and parking for Texas Stadium was (in Irving, TX).

Don't know if it is good news. But yeah, I wonder if Cubes was really that ignorant he could keep hold of final basketball related decisions. I gave him a year in 2023 (viewtopic.php?p=109583236#p109583236) but he didn't even last that long - and he wasn't even kicked out by the league lol - just faded

Reading through reddit and my eyebrows were raised in the train

Not sure the timeline matches but if this is true I'm glad he is gone for good.
Cuban lost basketball control when he signed Curry with out telling anyone. That forced the front office to change Jones Jr’s deal from 3 to 1 year.

Re: Cuban is out?
Are there Indian casinos or card houses in TX?
Hard to believe they'd have a gian LV type of casino near a big city like Dallas, which is a much bigger media market than LV.
In any event, I doubt the league would let them move the team to LV because they have expansion plans there, though if the Mavs moved there, obviously the expansion teams would be Seattle and Dallas.

There are no Indian casinos in Texas. There are casinos in Oklahoma that are less than an hour drive from Dallas though. The rumored site for the new arena is about a 20 min drive from downtown Dallas. The plan is that the new arena will be the epicenter of a large casino.

Re: Cuban is out?
Cuban made some dumb decisions but he was never a soulless owner. I'd rather have an owner who makes good intentioned mistakes than a clinically greedy owner who just wants to use the team to make money. Of course Cuban had his own financial incentive, but I truly believe he wanted the team to win first. I am personally quite sad to see him being phased out. In a few years I think the Mavericks franchise is going to be very different and I'm not sure if we will like that.

Sounds like BS, Mavs could easily sign DJJ to 3 yrs deal, after Thybulle got matched.

After 2011 i heavily doubt about it, Mavs had the lowest payroll in the league in 2012 to 2022 span... And it's a fact. Not debatable.
Not resign TC was a cheap move.
Can't build a true contender during Luka rookie years was just inability probably.
He was a 10+++ owner during his first stint as a owner ( i don't care about Nash or other trades because he had ever try to build a contender) but a full 5 in subsequent years because he just "survive".
About the future i honestly don't know but the first 6 months without him were awesome man, perfect trades and NBA Finals.

I am still cut up about Cuban letting Chandler walk (and he did it twice!). But his reasons were to lure a big fish in FA which never worked out. He was ambitious & I don't hate that.
As for the future it's hard not to be optimistic of the short term future after watching that run but long term I am skeptical with these owners.

That was just stupidity.
TC was a big part of the that run.
I don't care about new owners, Cuban was horrible in the last 13 years so if they will be horrible too then nothing changed. It's a win win situation.
