I wonder how much to get him. How much was Knicks offering?

Not sure if he is good enough to be 2nd option though

I want nothing to do with him and his Injury history. Let the knicks pay him 45 mill plus while he sits half the season on the bench. Very good role player, but he can't stay healthy. I'll pass.

I agree about OG, no interest due to him being injury prone.

What I find particularly interesting is that New York is set up to have a hard time retaining Hartenstein and OG, two critical pieces.

Imagine this team defensively with Suggs/OG/Franz/Isaac on the court at once lmao.

But I don't think the Magic would be a realistic OG suitor anyway.

Let's say we don't want to use our pre-extension cap space this off-season. It definitely won't be there next off-season. That doesn't mean we can't turn it into contract slots for trades, right? So I'm wondering what are the moves that tell us as fans that we're stocking up trade assets?

If we bring back Gary and/or Kelle on 1 yr deals. If we trade the pick this year for a future first.

My question, assuming ATL drafts Sarr or Clingan, would they seek to unload Capela or Okongwu? I would think Capela on an expiring deal, is the better mentor/placeholder for a rookie Center (I'm not that enamored with OO's long-term upside at C...but I don't really know how ATL looks at him). I'm guessing Okongwu's versatility makes him a better pairing, long-term, with Sarr (or Clingan). Wendell Carter could provide a solid, versatile, upgrade at C immediately (on a great deal) and gracefully transition to PF/C as Sarr earns more time. Carter is a solid, heady, 2-way role model for Okongwu as well and offers similar versatility...Carter is also only 25.

I really want to construct a trade for Murray to ORL and am looking for ways to sweeten the deal by absorbing a player that ATL now finds redundant. I'm not saying Capela or OO don't have value, just that rolling them into a bigger deal would also be useful to ATL, cap-wise.

ORL sends: Wendell Carter, Jett Howard, DEN 25 frp, ORL 26 frp (top 5 protected) ($17m salary)
ATL sends: Dejounte Murray, Clint Capela, Bruno Fernando ($ 50m salary)

Draft McCain or Carrington or da Silva or Shannon or whoever is there at #18
Then, sign a vet FA for around $8-12m for 1 + 1 (Slo-Mo?) or just keep Ingles if he's looking physically able

Capela, Mo, Fernando
Paolo, Isaac, Anderson
Franz, Anderson, Black
Suggs, Black, Houstan
Murray, McCain

Imo, if they go for risacher, it would be easier to make a move for djm because wcj will be less redundant to their number one pick. While we on the other hand value wcj.

I think Sarr is the best pick - but he's so far from ready...maybe a good reason to keep expiring Capela as a one year mentor...I figure WCJ is a better fit, because he can a) save a bunch of salary and, b) continue to play a complementary style to Sarr for years.

I think it lightens the price for Murray because, imo, WCJ is just a better, younger, much more versatile player than Capela, regardless of salary. For ORL, Capela is fine between Paolo & Franz - just blocking shots, setting picks, and rebounding...at least for a year or two.

ORL sends: Wendell Carter, Cole Anthony, Jett Howard, DEN 25 frp, ORL 26 frp (top 5 protected) ($30m salary)
ATL sends: Dejounte Murray, Clint Capela ($ 47m salary)

Sign Klay Thompson for 2 years at $27m, with an additional TO year

Draft Baylor Schierman at #18, Adem Bona at #47 ....if Carrington or Kolek (or whoever) drops into second, trade up with srps

Capela, M. Wagner, Bona
Paolo, Isaac
Franz, Houstan, Schierman
Suggs, Schierman, Queen

And now for something completely different...picking on the vulnerable old folks:

PHO sends: Nurkic, Grayson Allen, #22
ORL sends: Carter, Cole Anthony, DEN 25 frp

WHY for PHO: PHO clears $9m next year (and it goes up each year), patches one starting spot (C) and hopes to patch another (PG). They don't have a lot of options or flexibility, but Nurkic is not really a good fit. They hope Cole Anthony can provide some quality PG play, at least off the bench, and maybe even starting...I would honestly recommend they look at Fultz on a vet min FA deal...he'd be playing with 3 world-class shooters and WCJ, who's also a very capable floor-spreader and roller. I don't know if $9m even gets their accountant's attention, but the on-court fit is solid too. Losing the pick hurts - but that's what you get for putting yourself in cap purgatory...if it's too much, ORL could release the partial rights to the PHX '26 frp (which could be significant).

WHY for ORL: Pick up a younger, better Klay Thompson for 2/3 the salary in Allen. Patch the C spot with a workable, big vet, and take home an extra frp this year at a net cap cost of $9m...if ORL wants to be aggressive, still have access to another 30m+ in cap space. Sign Monk for $22m, pick up a versatile vet like Kyle Anderson for another $12m on a short-term deal. Nurkic may or may not be a step back at C, but with our versatile cast of bigs - from Isaac to Mo to Ware, we can throw different looks, while we figure out the long-term vision at C.

Draft Ware at #18 and Schierman at #22 (or, maybe explore trade up?)

Nurkic, M. Wagner, Ware
Paolo, Isaac
Franz, Anderson, Houstan
Suggs, Allen, Schierman
Monk, Black

*just read that Grayson can't be traded until Oct...tough to keep an agreed upon swap a secret that long

How much would it cost us to get Murray

Would Cole + 18 + 2 Frp would do it?

Would you even do Cole + 18 + 3 Frp?

Renounce Joe and Moe and sign them using the lle and mle

This would put us at 97M , roughly 40M under the cap

We could go after Claxton or other marques fa but I d rather go this way:

Sign Melton to a 4 yrs cheap contract (mle type)
Sign fontechio to a 3 yrs cheap contract (mle type)
Sign goga to a 2+1 cheap contract

Murray, AB, suggs
Suggs, melton, jett
Franz, Houstan ,joe
Paolo, JI , fontecchio
Wcj, Moe, goga

Very well balanced team
Suggs, AB, Tyus, Jase
Bane, AB, TDS , Jett
Franz, TDS, Panda
P5, JI, Panda, Moe
Wcj, Goga, Moe

Return to Orlando Magic
