2025 BAF Preseason Power Rankings

TEAM-------------------(HIGHEST/LOWEST RANKING)

1. San Antonio Spurs (1/6)
What other GM's are saying about San Antonio:

MPH has proven he shouldn’t be slept on and always has something up his sleeve. I am waiting to see what he does next

I think mpharris got bored or wanted another challenge because Curry appears to have still some great years under his belt. Murray is kinda iffy real life but Jokic - Murray chemistry is already tested and should be good for Spurs, when most teams don't have that luxury of real life chemistry carrying to sim. Spurs still have great depth and its hard to doubt mpharris with him proving year after year improving his team through in season moves, which likely makes them the favourite again to win it all

What else is there to say that hasn’t been said about this god forsaken squad. With the reigning MVP and just massive depth they’re the top of the heap until they’re not.

2. Detroit Pistons (1/11)
What other GM's are saying about Detroit:

Cashed in his future assets to build an elite 1-2 punch. Also did a great job adding complimentary pieces to the roster.

I’d have Doncic/Davis as the second best duo this league has seen and Context has built this roster out well. Contender.

Too much talent + depth on that team, with Spurs breaking up that unbeatable Jokic - Curry I like their chances most in finally ending the Spurs dynasty. Only worry would be Context not being battle tested in sim playoffs

3. Golden State Warriors (2/10)
What other GM's are saying about Golden State:

Elite duo with Curry/Giannis. Ihart will be a very solid pick. Worried about the depth beyond that.

Steph and Giannis are top 5 worthy alone. NE won’t settle either and I’m sure plenty of other moves can and will happen.

Another year, another elite NewEra team. Solid role players around Giannis/Curry will be a tough out for anyone.

4. Toronto Raptors (1/16)
What other GM's are saying about Toronto:

This team has very obvious identity and it will be curious how they perform offensively. This is probably the best defensive team ever assembled together, which fits Wemby as he might be the best defensive talent ever. Unlike on offense, where marginal utility drops off after a point, going all in on defense makes sense because it ensures you never have a weak link out there. Its a bit shame that Trae Young + Wemby were separated because they fit so well together. Question is how are teams gonna score against them?

if Wemby is the ultimate sim gawd I have a hard time seeing teams beat TOR with that nightmare defensive squad they’ve assembled

Best defensive team in the SIM by far. Just worried if they will have enough offense and playmaking in playoffs vs the other teams in the east.

5. Charlotte Hornets (1/9)
What other GM's are saying about Charlotte:

It’s a testament to the East that I have a team that will likely start Ja/Edwards/Mikal/Green/Sabonis as the four seed. Another contender.

Hornets have been a contender and one of the favourites out East for years now, with locking up Morant + Ant early. Could this finally be their year? They will have even tougher competition now in Pistons, Brooklyn, Raps and usual suspects Cavs. It has a very talented top 6 but depth becomes an issue after that at this point in the season

Top end talent with also really good depth.

6. Los Angeles Clippers (3/14)
What other GM's are saying about the Clippers:

SGA is arguably the best all around player on both ends in the SIM and put elite shooting around him.

SGA and KAT are enough to potentially make them a top 5 team

This is another team that has been a contender over the years, mostly thanks to locking up SGA early. It has been a dark horse for a while but this could finally be their year to reach the Finals if Spurs take a step back. If KAT can matchup with Joker in a series, watch out for SGA to assert his dominance in a potential series

7. Cleveland Cavaliers (4/17)
What other GM's are saying about Cleveland:

Good retooling from Melo around the league’s longest tenured duo. Always a threat.

Tatum is finally a champ, has a great sidekick in Bam which has been a proven formula in sim, and other useful pieces. Overall the squad has a couple of weaknesses in some positions and depth but melo have managed to overcome similar concerns in the past which could make them punch above their weight once again

the top end talent is very high and there are some good pieces on the squad outside of Tatum and Bam. The East is a different mode right now though

8. Atlanta Hawks (8/18)
What other GM's are saying about Atlanta:

Love the starting lineups potential. I think the bench needs some work.

they have a really fun top core as long as the sim gives some of them some respect. Interested to see how things pan out for them

Great collection of talent here and good team construction puts the Hawks squarely in the playoff mix.

9. New Orleans Pelicans (8/16)
What other GM's are saying about New Orleans:

Lot of talent, but lot of history of injuries and the fit may be a bit clunky.

they have a ton of talent and could be a team that makes some noise. Thank goodness for the sim not deducting for injuries because they have been BANGED up collectively

Unique build, as usual with Pooch teams. A lot of lineup versatility which makes matching up difficult.

10. Miami Heat (5/21)
What other GM's are saying about Miami:

Good balanced lineup along with solid depth need Kyrie and Jimmy to stay healthy.

Jimmy and Kyrie aren't trusty worthy but this team has great depth and have the clutch top tier talent that can upset any team, consistency has been an issue with Fat's builds but if it doesn't work out we know he will be proactive

Depends which direction Fat wants to go but I predict he’ll punt

11. Chicago Bulls (6/20)
What other GM's are saying about Chicago:

Kawhi will still be really good but SIM might have course corrected for Ben Simmons.

HS does a great job wheeling and dealing. There’s talent there but moves will need to come and I have no doubt they will

HerSports’ belief in Herro looks to be paying off this year. The Simmons contract is an obstacle though.

The way Manhattan Project continues to reshape his team entirely each offseason and end up having these well built well balanced squads should be celebrated. He is like a Poor Man's Smash in that regard, just missing out at the top of the top but always building strong squads with not much weakness

talent is there and they have some sneaky pieces. Some sim bumps could be huge for them

With Franz rising and Booker expiring it’ll be interesting to see where this ship pilots.

13. Boston Celtics (9/26)
What other GM's are saying about Boston:

As currently constructed, this team has a lot of shooting around LeBron which always proves to be a winning strategy in real life. As LeBron continues to prove his greatness, this should be a very dangerous team to face any night or in a series

LeBron still will be great in SIM. Chet is going to be very impactful and they have enough shooting to be competitive in the east.

LBJ and Chet are a fun duo with some talent in between. The East will make it tough for them

14. Denver Nuggets (11/22)
What other GM's are saying about Denver:

Hezi’s put together a nice, competitive team that’s ready to make a big splash in free agency. Interested to see what he puts around Fox in coming years.

I like this team more than last year's version. Fox was a good get for them as a cornerstone and they have some good pieces around. DeRozan appears to still have lot of game left in his tank but unfortunately this team seems like a slightly worse version of the real life Kings

Fox, Demar, and AG are solid pieces with some other really sneaky pieces. I’m interested to see them in the sim

15. Minnesota Timberwolves (7/23)
What other GM's are saying about Minnesota:

Elite drafting on of the up and coming teams. Think they are just one year away from making a big time impact. But could make it into playoffs.

This has gotta be the best young core in the league and Strick keeps finding these gems, which continues to add to the rotation. It reminds me of melo's core back in the year, patience proved its worth for him which likely will be here as well. Bar Wemby who is gonna dominate the league in the coming years, you have to like Wolves chances in the upcoming years. They can start making some noise starting this season and I expect this team to make the playoffs in what appears to be a weakened West

People might be billing them as the team of the future but their time starts now.

16. Philadelphia 76ers (14/26)

Some good talent but east is really strong this year.

ezmoney always had great eye for young talent and built really exciting squads that even made waves in the sim. It appears he still have the chops for draft looking at the last one, but this seems rather a lackluster core beyond Maxey compared to previous Sixers teams. Taking fliers on couple of draft letdowns Jabari and Scott haven't bear fruit yet

What’s he building in there? EZ is positioned to strike like a cobra and it’ll be interesting to see if he does it in season or during the offseason. Some great, low cost pieces but not enough to compete at the moment,.
