Re: Free Agency
Throw OG the bag. Max him. Call New York's bluff.
He's a better fit than anyone we could potentially sign or trade for. An Ausar/OG tandem on the wing would be wild.
Hurting New York also directing benefits us if we want to crack the playoffs some day. Even if it just forces NY to increase their offer you do it. Don't let them re-sign this dude for like $30M/year.

Free agency looks pretty poor given our situation so might as well take a shot at OG

Just a reminder that OG's agent is the Knicks POBO Leon Rose's son.

OG's primary agent is Austin Brown, not Sam Rose, though they do work for the same agency and certainly there are ties there.
And just because Sam Rose and Leon Rose are related doesn't mean OG wants to take less than he's worth on the open market. What incentive would OG have to take the Rose family discount? If he wants to get paid and Leon Rose wants the family discount, the door is open...

I mean sure, but anyone who thinks that isn't a significant factor is inhaling a decent amount of copium. The whole process so far just comes across as posturing to get a better deal. Ultimately I think him and the Knicks come to an agreement on a 4 year $160M contract or thereabouts.

Obviously the chances are very slim that the Knicks just decide to walk away and not offer what a team like Detroit would, but they're slightly better than they were 24 hours ago haha
I'd offer him the ~$182/4 year max on day 1. Worst case is you force the Knicks into putting themselves in a rough cap situation with Brunson's SuperMax impending. Best case, you have an (overpaid) player that helps transform the defense and fits perfectly with Cade. Certainly way better than someone like Lavine and better than Ingram IMO, considering you don't have to spend your trade assets to get him.

I know it's likely been mentioned but what's most Knicks can offer compared to us and same goes for IQ in Toronto.

The Knicks have full bird rights on OG, so they can offer the same as us, but with 1 additional year. $245M/5 years.
Same with IQ. Raptors have full bird rights.

That's some cheeky and misleading math. The first factoid amounts to Anunoby being healthy in one of the last two seasons. By that measure, the narrative on Embiid is incorrect; he's played 70% of his games over the past three seasons. The second hides that he was pretty healthy for his first three seasons before being decidedly not healthy in his next four.
The reality is that he's played a whopping 16 more games over the past seven seasons than Embiid has, and Embiid is most undoubtedly a very injury-prone player.

Re: Free Agency
Getting 60 games out of OG every season for 4 years is likely better than anything else we could get in free agency thoughCrymson wrote:Canadafan wrote:?t=gxw8DVeGiiNSqn_b3_Xp0w&s=19

Charlotte fan popping over to see what you folks were thinking about potentially signing Miles Bridges and was surprised to see he's not showing up in the last several pages of this thread. What's the consensus view on whether DET should try to sign Miles?

I think off-court issues are distracting for a bad team. Its one thing if the team is winning and playing well, as winning makes a lot of things better, but hard to care about a home-town kid with that kind of home life

That’s the big issue. But I’m okay w signing him. Good player at a position of need. He’s certainly been punished- this has cost him tens of millions of dollars and a year off. I guess we’ll find out what Langdon thinks of him pretty soon.

Didn’t want him before, and really don’t want him now. He doesn’t play winning basketball, and he’s a huge liability off the court, no matter how much time will pass.

Re: Free Agency
If Bridges wanted to come in on a hometown deal for at least 2 seasons before we pay him big to see where he’s really at, then I might good for getting Bridges, but that’s very doubtful.
