Free agency plan - Horace

Post#1 » by Horace6766 » Wed Jun 19, 2024 2:40 am

Here’s what I think I would do

Trade Ivey, Stewart, the number 5 and a future pick or Ausr Thompson for Lauri Markkham. He brings 3 point shooting and floor spacing we need around Cade and Duren. Good rebounder and holds his own on defense. The nice thing about this trade is we could actually save money.

We have slightly more then 60+ million

Give OG Anunoby 40 million a year. He’s young and another 3 point shooter and a really good defender.

Offer Immanuel quickly about 20 and up to 25 million if need be. Another good 3 point shot. Good defense. Would play well off Cade.

Starting line up off Cade, Quickly, Anunoby, Markkham, and Duren.

Bench of Sauser Thompson and fettocino plus your second round pick. Use your mid level to enhance your bench.

I like IQ and Lauri but I think Toronto matches anything less than $30 million per year on Quickley pretty Quickley. He put up an efficient 22/8 post all-star break and he's one of the best in the league as the pick and roll ball handler. He would be great to pair with Cade.

I think Utah might prefer a bit slower of a rebuild and could possibly ship Lauri for the right package of picks and young talent, but trading for a guy like that is always a massive risk because he isn't locked into a long term contract he very much could just leave for nothing in two years and massively set the rebuild back. We don't exactly have a winning culture here.

I like the idea in principle but it makes three unlikely assumptions:

- That Utah would accept our package for Lauri when in reality if they put him on the market they would get much better offers
- That NY wouldn't match $40M per year for OG
- That Toronto wouldn't match $25M per year for IQ

I think the most realistic is IQ if we really significantly overpay, and even then Toronto would probably still be tempted to match as he's a talented and still improving player.

^^^^hmmm I like the idea of an IQ overpay. Is he a perfect compliment next to Cade? Monk, Ivey, or whoever else as an alternative....is he keeps and bounds better than those guys?
I like the idea of offering IQ and OG big bucks even if it just forces Raps and Knicks to overpay
I also luv the idea of Markkanen on our team but I've come to realize that isn't possible....likely.
Him, Mikal or Dejounte are 3 guys I'd luv to separately try and trade for with Ivey+#5+2029#1pick. Would prefer to keep Ausar Duren and Stew with that order being my preference for who I'd keep.

Resign Fonteccio, sign Monk, and Sign the best Forward we can. Ie. OG, Bridges, Harris. Draft BPA, but I hope Clingan falls to us and run it back. We have good prospect at every position group but we need adults in the room for at least 2( Guards and forwards) and a 7ft + unicorn (Clingan) that can hopefully match up with your Prozingus, wemby, Chets of the world. We have had only 1 opportunity to get one and we took Cade over Mobley. I still think Cade was the right pick, but we could really use a skilled 7 footer.

How is Clingan a unicorn? He's just a big dude who can play drop defense. Is Gobert a unicorn?

The only thing that I like here is signing OG. I get that it will have to be an over pay. I ask the question in the following manner. Would you rather have OG at 35-40 or Harris around 30? I see us giving someone that contract. I just want the money spent on a guy who can fit.

I do like using the cap this season to take a shot at a high quality RFA and OG fits the bill. We'll see if we even get a chance or if he's signed before free agency opens.

I just read that NY lowballed OG in initial talks. Maybe there is a possibility.
