Re: Woj: MONTY FIRED
That's pretty exciting, mostly because Monty just seemed like his heart wasn't in coaching our young guys it felt like he regretted not taking that break to spend more time with his family.
He was a class act here, but he also had so many head scratching decisions.

I thought he would get this next season, happy to be wrong. We have to make the right choice with this next hire.

I bought the Stein line that said he was likely staying.
This is one serving of crow in which I’m happy to partake.

Respect to Gores once again, he is a terrible owner, but whenever he need to spend money, he does.

Shows how suspect the NBA rumor mill is.
This was an obvious choice. The roster sucked, but he didn’t get much out of the pieces we do have and really hampered their development by putting them in “his system” vs maximizing their strengths.

Will be interesting to see who we hire as coach and for what amount of money. JJ Reddick and Trajan Langdon are Duke buddies I could see them using this opening to try and get JJ an ever better/bigger deal from the Lakers.

Re: Woj: MONTY FIRED
Holy hell it actually happened! Thank you Gores! Thank you Langdon! This is such a good move for the team. Monty made no relationships during his time here and in fact actually upset players and some personnel. When the team needs to have multiple meetings with a coach to tell them to stop starting a player who’s no longer in the league alarm bells should be ringing.
I just hope they get the right coach and not another bag of old bones veteran coach off the reject pile. Really hoping for Chris Quinn

Re: Woj: MONTY FIRED
Really surprised but I guess Gores stayed true to the report that he’d give Trajan full permission to hire/fire.
Probably the best for both parties, Monty didn’t really seem to love coaching a rebuild and we can do a full re-set from the weaver era.

Re: Woj: MONTY FIRED
Always been impressed with Trajan. He knows what he's doing. 95% of new GM's would buy time for themselves and wait the year out.
This means he's about business and ready to work. He clearly understands what culture and development of players means. Couldn't let Monty coach another game. No point
edit: well at least Langdon im sure gave his recommondation fire

Monty has to be the worst coaching hire ever made, considering the contract and not just how bad he was. Glad Gores was willing to eat that contract.

See. THIS is why I wanted to wait for confirmation. No need to eat crow btw, you had every reason to believe that he was returning.
Will be interesting to see who they have lined up as coach. I'd like Atkinson

Slightly annoying that I was one the people saying we should take the reports that we were willing to eat the contract seriously.
I bought the lack of news and the Stein report (he was one of the reliable ones back in the day) as evidence they weren’t firing him.
Had it right until I didn’t. Still, as a pessimist I’ve been right far too many times over the years, so I’m glad to see I was wrong here.

Re: Woj: MONTY FIRED
My Edmonton Oilers are halfway through a potentially historic Stanley Cup finals comeback and a coach that I despised (on a basketball level, seems like a good guy) of one of my other favorite teams is now gone. Hell of a 12 hours for this guy.
