Re: Team Canada Basketball Thread V4.0
Why do we have a story about Cory not being invited, but not an official announcement of who is invited? When's the announcement already? Or is it only because Cory went public.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

A good sign that people are lying? When there’s more than one reason given. Regardless, he was ready Game1 GSW. Either really bad timing or just more willing to back up Steph Curry than Team Canada.

Re: Team Canada Basketball Thread V4.0
All true. But I don't see a reason to deny him being at camp. What if two of the guards get injured during camp? Or are unabe to play for other reasons? What's the harm in having CoJo around as an insurance policy while also giving him a good feeling (he has been probably the most consistent NBA show ups over the yeras)? I think it also looks good if anyone who wants to from the original core 14 gets invited to camp. Let them either decline or fight for a spot with the clarification that they are a long shot. Same goes for Brissett for me. He's not a priority, but what if Edey is unavailable, Wiggins pulls a Wiggins, and another big wing is unavailable? Why not have the option to be flexible?

Roster is announced Wednesday for those who have asked.
I’m with you, and I’d like to see everyone there for the flexibility and “what ifs”. But there is clearly more to the story that we don’t know about. How he handled last summer when he was needed and had a role was likely the breaking point. This Core commitment goes two ways and in order to get guys to take it seriously there probably needs to be consequences for those that didn’t live up to their end. I’m sure this decision was well thought out and had serious reasons for it. Other guys screwed up at various stages too - Brissett, Brooks, Murray etc. Some weirdness with Alexander and Wiltjer last AmeriCup window too. It looks like Brooks quickly corrected and Murray is just too important here. I won’t be surprised if Brissett is not part of camp. Perhaps his position is too much in need, but he has two summers of not showing up under his belt and we’ve heard his excuses were pretty weak.

If you think Cojo could potentially bring value for the team thats fine, but I don't get people clutching pearls that he "deserved" an invite. If anything, I think it'd be disrespectful to patronize him with an invite when you have no intention of selecting him.

damn not even a camp invite, they're doing cojo dirty
No participation spots. Perfect. Finally. We have arrived.
We're so deep in the backcourt, we can't afford to waste a roster spot for a "veteran voice". LOL. You honestly think Shai or Jamal are going to take something into the 4th quarter against Serbia that Cory shouts out after Jodi calls a timeout?
Cory should have shut his yap. I understand it's hard to admit you're too old or just not good enough to raise the floor of a very good CDNMNT these days. But he's only undercutting the program he claims to love, and himself.
This relates to a post higher on the page. No one, including Joseph, was going to be "cut publicly", unless they publicized it themselves. Cory should have just taken a cold shower and maintained his dignity.
Good instincts or you know the truth.
CoJo quit on the team mid camp last summer when a back-up PG was needed beacuase he didn't like his expected role/minutes.
The back was an obvious cover story. Probably Brissett's knee too.
This is a bad look for CoJo planting a story like this - he knows why he didnt get a camp invite. Committment is a two way street.
If he played last summer or if the back was a legit injury, he would 100% be at this camp.
Lest we forget CoJo showed up three weeks late for the 2019 World cup prep and many days late to a very short Olympic Qualfication camp in 2021. He was clearly out of shape and was terrible that tournament and was one of the many reasons Canada failed to Qualify (3p/2r/5a on 21mpg shot 30%/25%/50% and was the only guy on the team with a negative +/- at -6.3).
Love CoJo and all he has done for Canada Basketball. He was given a tonne of rope under Triano and then Nurse. He earned much of it, but there is no reason why Jordi needs to give him the same rope considering CoJo's current ability, the other options Canada has and how CoJo approached the last couple camps.
I remember the rumours last summer surrounding Cory’s exit from the team being role related but I can’t remember where I read that. Was it from you? Did you have inside info? You were at the World Cup, right?

Probably. But among others.
Sometimes.
Yes.
Plus, does anyone think that if the Core 7 NBA guys wanted CoJo at camp he wouldn’t be there? I’d heavily bet they were consulted on this.

A part of me was hoping Vince Carter would call Canada’s games alongside Dan Shulman at the Olympics. Would’ve been a nice tip of the cap for the generation of kids he inspired. His legacy with the Raptors is complicated and brings mixed feelings, but no one debates his impact on Canadian basketball.

Glad we are getting Shulman though! Wish we had him for the Raps too. He’s top tier play by play across any sport or network.

Shulman is a true Canada basketball sicko. He wrote into his contracts at espn and Sportsnet that if Canada ever qualified for the Olympics in men’s bball he’d be granted leave to go broadcast the games.

He's also by FAR, the best basketball broadcaster this country has ever seen... just wish we could replace those scrubs calling Raptor games with talent like this.

If I were to take a guess, I think we'll be sending this team to the olympics:
Olynyk / Powell / Edey
Barrett / Wiggins / Lyles
Brooks / Dort
SGA / NAW
Murray / Nembhard
Brissett and Birch will likely be around as replacements in case somebody gets injured or pulls out for some other reason. It's also possible that Lyles and Brissett and actually competing for the 12th spot on the roster.

I remember being surprised at CoJo not being on the roster with a clear need at backup PG and coming off a solid year in the NBA. Your story on him not being happy with his role definitely checks out now considering he wasn't even invited to camp this time.

This seems best case scenario and I'd be thrilled if it held true.
I still have doubts everyone is healthy or will be cleared to play. Edey, Murray and Wiggins are still a little iffy for me and odds are one falls off.
