This is our guy. 5 guys said they got word he killed his workout with us. We’ve been begging for efficient scorer at the two spot. He’ll fit right in day one as a plug and play like JJJ. I can see Spo banging the table here for Jaylon.

Makes sense for SAS. Both have length advantages at lead guard. Theyre building a team with size. Pretty cool idea.

I'm not yet convinced either is likely to end up a lead guard in the NBA, but I'd love to have either on my team. Great test for both of them, especially the younger Castle having to deal with Carter the defensive demon

I like the look of Jaylon Tyson. He does a lot of things well and has nice positional size. I'm not sure he does any one thing at a top tier level. I'd like to see more defensive impact from a 3rd year guy. Have to somewhat question why it took him until year 3 to be an impact player. Anyone have any more background on what led to him bouncing to a new school for each of his 3 seasons?

I am curious how far Dillingham will fall. A lot of these agents trying to manipulate the draft a lot and some are gonna get hurt by it.

“We discovered the reason why Jaylon Tyson transferred. It was about playing time. After the game with Incarnate Word, Brian Davis of the Statesman asked coach to elaborate on Tyson's transfer. Beard has deep regrets that Tyson went into the transfer portal, has complete respect for his and his family’s decision. It was all about playing time.”

Jeez sounds like a terrible situation at Texas Tech. I imagine he left Texas after FR season just to seek more playing time?

Yes he left Texas due to playing time and his dream school was always Texas Tech. Terrible situation happened at Tech that led him to Cal where he was finally able to flourish.

Some more numbers on Jaylen Tyson:

44% of FGA at the rim (love it)
58% FG% at the rim (low for a 6'7 wing 3rd year player)
24 dunks on the season
40% on non-rim 2s (solid)
36% 3PT (29% of FGA)
1.11 A/TO ratio

Encouraging that he showed to be a capable 3 pt shooter over the past 2 seasons (40% as a Soph), but his 3PA rate is low relative to his usage.

He was clearly asked to do a lot at Cal as the highest usage player without any better playmakers around him. I think his defensive impact suffered some as a result. All defensive impact numbers seemed better as a Soph role player at TT

He also finished better around the rim as a Soph and his 3 pt percentage was nice, but still low rate. A He seems like a player who won't be a volume 3 pt shooter and is best served in a role player usage role.

I could see some type of hybrid between the games of Tobias Harris and Caleb Martin

What do we think Tyson's ceiling is? a Third option on offense? That sounds about right for a Tobias Harris level player.
If his ceiling is Caleb Martin, you might as well pick Da Silva.

Dang, that slight at Minny - “I don’t know who their owner is”. All these are exactly why I think Riley hates this guy, and it’s not just about how the Bron exit transpired.

All these comments over someone, who if had a different last name, would be lucky to be considered in the UFA pile after the draft :banghead:

I'm trying to wrap my head around that myself. I def think Da Silva is a better pure shooter and defender than Tyson. Tyson is more multi-faceted. So the questions for me become how will that fit when playing a complementary role next to higher usage players and/or if he will be good enough offensively to command the higher usage himself.

Part of the struggle with fitting a Tobias Harris type player is the tendency to make decisions like a top offensive option when the production and efficacy doesn't match it (not pulling the trigger on open 3s or not making the extra pass to instead try to create your own offense).

absolute ceiling is probably a second option on a great team, if everything breaks perfectly.

He's very skilled and extremely versatile, no real weakness in his offensive game.

He's not an elite athlete and doesn't have amazing length, but hes solid enough in both categories.

improving from good to great as a shooter, and getting in better shape to gain a bit more speed\explosiveness - if we can do that he's a 20+ PPG pretty soon IMO.
