2024 NBA Offseason: Free Agency/Trade Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by durden_tyler » Tue Jun 18, 2024 6:37 am

RealGM experts, capologists, please chime in with regards to probable max contracts and if any (other) team can "steal" these free agents if they want to; like overpay for certain players just to lure them away from their current teams. Which teams have the capspace to do so? Or if trade demand (via sign and trade?) which teams hold zero leverage if this happens? Also, which teams currently over the cap can easily go under that with some moves before the season

All data via spotrac (so not sure if these are the actual correct numbers or are changing at the turn of the season, etc)

There is an expectation that it is coming, but nothing is done yet. They could just be waiting to announce it though.

Who ever signs tobis Harris to a none team friendly contract will regret it he’s always been an empty stats guy he’s best as a 4th option on a championship team at best maybe even 5th option

Sixers have got to land either George, Siakam or OG or they're in real trouble. They worked real hard to clear out all that cap space to form a Big Three with Embiid and Maxey and if they strike out I think Embiid will want out after next season.

MFers, sign my man Jonas as soon as possible, so he could feel good and join our NT as soon as possible, Thank you.

Very interested where Malik Monk goes, I feel he probably transfer to other team.
Very interested to see where Klay goes, tho I have no doubt he ends up being a bad contract, still interesting where he ends up.
Miles Bridges... Interesting.

As a token Euroleague guy, I will mention few EL free agents who I wouldn't be shocked are in the NBA next season. All AMerican which makes NBA move more believable. And I know vet Euroleague signings never end up being anything in the NBA, but whatever...

Josh Nebo - 6'10, lob finishing freak athlete center.
PJ Dozier - 6'5 PG from Partizan. Basically, he was replacement and also an upgrade to Dante Exum, who had his moments in Dallas.
Wade Baldwin and Lorenzo Brown. Two talented lead guards, both still under contract in Tel Aviv, but due to war, both could leave the team.
Kendrick Nunn - NBA out clause.

They could use their picks to trade for Ingram, Butler, Lauri, or MIkal. But it's tough.

What's the earlier rumors in the year? Magic to chase Monk, or was just that fan speak hoping to will it this offseason. i think he's a better inexpensive target (over a washed up and costly Klay Thompson) for Orlando.

They don't have quality players to give back in any real trade though. Those picks arent going to be good enough justify that. Sixers are all in on free agency or else they will be making marginal improvements through trade.

PG13 will resigned with the exclusive no trade clause that only Beal has. Siakam will resign as well and we have no interest in signing OG for what he is asking. We are going to trade for Buckets, so the sooner you realized this, the better off you be.

Didn't you get the memo?

This offseason is essentially about whether LeBron is still chasing ghosts and if Paul George actually care about winning. I think both stay in LA, as both are over those two things.

The 3 most interesting names on that list after that to me are KCP, Kyle Anderson, and Fultz.

Fultz can be a sneaky good signing for a team, and be an awesome 6th man for a solid group.

KCP and Anderson are high level vets that could take a team and put them over the top as the stead veteran that plays solid defene as the 5th starter/first guy off the bench.

KCP will have a lot of suiters, and think he goes back to DEN, though it's not a sure bet. Could see the 76ers making a play for him, and that would be a solid move for both parties.

Anderson would look incredible in Denver, but idk if they can get that salary.

I think this class is super weak, and we see a lot of trades around the margins and some big names being moved instead.

The offseason will really come down to what Philly can do.

I'm also going to be following Mile Bridges. There is potential there for him to sign a super undervalued contract ll things considered, and if it's to a team that is actually good, that could be one of the moves that separates a good team from a great team. He's a scumbag, but a scumbag that can get you 20-30 and 7-10 boards on any given night. He's only 25, so a team might take a flyer on him, and I expect a shorter contract.

Eh, Ingram is doing a pretty good job of harming his trade market.

Meanwhile Drake still getting bodied by Kendrick Lamar with LeBron in the crowd.

Safe to say LeBron was never Drake's real friend and also confirms LeBron is staying in LA.

Kendrick diss track would kill Lebron's career. :o

Mario Hezonja has reupped with Real Madrid but has a NBA clause until 07/19 and according to Shams he has multiple suitors. A lot of teams could use a player of his profile, he would fit very well in Orlando in my opinion and he's already familiar with the franchise.
