I'm not a position guy. I'm a role guy. It's a PNR league and everyone switches. And both guys are expected to move off the ball and space the floor on offense. Klay probably does hold up better against a big in the post, but Allen holds up better on the perimeter against guards and wings and that's just much more relevant these days.

Sure, so Klay's position allows him to switch mostly 2-4. Gayson can only guard 1-2, and Klay is a lot better at guarding a majority of wings than Grayson is guards.

Getting floor spacing from a player with more size is more important than getting the same/similar spacing from a smaller player. All else, the biggest difference between Grayson and Klay is their Size, and Size wins basketball games.

Yeah we just see it differently which is cool.

but more important I freely concede the actual market is going to speak on this and tell us that Klay has more value than Allen did. So either way you are right. I do want to acknowledge that. :D

I am really starting to get the feeling that Klay goes to Orlando for a big two or three years deal which is just long enough to 1) give them time to develop the younger guards and 2) free up a big chunk of money right when they need it to extend their young players.

I would worry about mentality more than anything else. On paper, the Spurs could use a small-forward who can space the floor and hold up on defense. I was never the biggest believer in Thompson's defensive chops, but he'd fit well in theory. But would he come into the situation fresh with a new attitude willing to help develop a young team into a championship core, or would he be that over-the-hill vet who feels entitled to eat first and ignores coaching?

I haven't heard a lot of good things about Klay's locker-room presence. It's to the point where I'd probably prefer Draymond on my club. Green for all of his faults seems like a guy who likes to take guys under his wing and teach them the game. There's an obvious risk, but I think he'd help more than hurt. Thompson, I'm not sure about. I'd probably prefer DeRozan back over Klay, but Thompson is more likely to be in the price range the Spurs are offering. If they have to go much bigger, they may as well make a move for George or another wing in that tier.

If I’m Warriors I offer him a 3 year, $90 million deal with $5 million guaranteed on year 3 for $65 million over 2 years.

If a team on open market has to give him $3 years, $90 million minimum all guaranteed I think it’s an overpay.

He’s a MLE guy at this stage.

Hard to justify anything more than MLE for 3 years...

I'll second preferring Allen over Klay.

Slightly more than Joe Ingles, less than KCP, he's never taken less to help the Warriors so I don't see why they should be obligated to overpay him now.

I think $20M per year is about fair market value. I think Golden State will probably pay him as much as 2 years/$50M. I think some team will probably overbid and offer 3 years/75M, or 2 years/$60M. The question is, will Klay stay in Golden State for $25M a year or will he leave for more money or a longer contract? My guess is he will stay.

So much of it has to do with a team's particular cap & roster situation. Particularly if it's a shorter deal, or even a 2 + 1TO...ORL, or DET 'overpaying' for a short-term deal makes more sense than it might for others. In ORL's case, it doesn't make sense at all if they don't also address backcourt offensive creation.

Klay may not be what he was, but just his threat from the perimeter makes Paolo & Franz see a lot more room to work in the paint. Teams routinely ignored ORL's perimeter shooters last year and it was, generally, a good decision. I could foresee Klay putting up personally disappointing numbers while Paolo & Franz "amazingly" improve their efficiency and put up All-Star numbers...because of the stress/warping of the defenders who can't just pile on Paolo anymore.

Orlando gives him the FVV special, a 3 year 85M deal with that 3rd year being team option. Orlando then follows that up with a Tyus Jones 4/55M while trading Cole Anthony with Dever pick for a wing.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

I like it...I'd be happy to trade Cole AND DEN frp for another mid-first in this "crappy" draft...if we could walk away with your lineup (minus Cole and his salary) plus two of...Schiermann, da Silva, Shannon, Carrington, Ware, Holmes, McCain...I like it now and future.

I'd be shocked if FO wants to get another younger player. Could see them targeting an older vet like Hardaway on a 1 year deal or 2 year max.

maybe...but I'm looking a gaggle of rookie-scale 23yo's in this draft that might be ready to contribute like Hardaway AND, maybe, have a bit more longer-term appeal and upside. I'd take Schiermann or da Silva or Shannon straight up over THJ, even if they weren't $12m less...but they would be.
