From what I've heard the drop-off in the draft happens earlier in the 20s....to me, packaging our two picks to target someone specific could be intriguing. I don't know trade values well enough though to know how far up the draft 27 and 37 gets you.

I feel like in this draft, more than your average draft, it's gonna be really important where these guys go. I don't think there's a guy out there who couldn't bust pretty easily in the wrong situation; meanwhile the guys that do pan out will be the ones lucky enough to go to the right spot.

This might seem obvious but there's so many guys with tools, but that need a ton of development in this draft that fit is gonna be crucial. A guy like Ryan Dunn would probably play right away for a team like Milwaukee, but wouldn't have a chance to get on the court for us. And every prospect is like that. There's not really anybody who you can say would succeed no matter where he went.

What does that mean for us? It means at 27 there should be somebody we can use because everyone's gonna be cherry picking skills, but it also means we have to try to get a player with skills that quickly translate within this teams system and needs. At this point that means scoring, likely from the wing or backcourt. We need a scorer we can develop defensively in the long term, if we go with a defender that we think can build up their offense the pick will be completely wasted.

To me, the only drop off is once Edey is taken. I think this is a good draft to find a backup center, and in my opinion its our biggest need that can be met via the draft and there should be useful guys available at both 27 and 37 spots. I'm not excited about any of the point guards in this draft that are projected post-lottery and honestly given how long point guards take to blossom, I'd rather focus on a point guard in free agency and there should be plenty of interesting possibilities (Tyus (if we can do a sign and trade), CP3 (if cut), Monte, Markelle Fultz, Dennis Smith, Kris Dunn, Killian Hayes, Delon Wright, Lowry, Dinwiddie), also combo guard D'Anthony Melton.

I think this is a good point. But I actually think that our roster is at a point where I think we could take almost anyone. It really sets up nicely as a BPA position, because of that cherry-picking you're mentioning.

Great players can still be found in poor drafts.

I agree. Let me put it to you like this... Say Daron Holmes falls past the Knicks and is there at 27. I personally don't think there's a world where Thibs let's that guy get by him, but let's say he does and let's say we take him. I wouldn't say that Holmes is a bad pick from a talent standpoint, I'd say that with KAT, Rudy and Naz there's no real minutes for him without a major shakeup and he is therefore not useful in the current window we have. In that sense that's a bad pick. not because DaRon can't work out, he very well could, but because he was an asset that was buried by misuse when there were other assets that had as much upside, but could have contributed earlier when it mattered. Meanwhile it probably stunts and endangers Holmes overall growth spending 2 years on the bench.

It's the toughest job a GM can have. How to keep a championship level team at that level for the present and the future.

While it's possible, I'm not going in with an expectation that any player drafted at 27 will be a rotation player as a rookie. And after this year, there is too much up in the air to say anyone will be buried longterm here.

This is actually a fun draft season.

We’re already good. We have an identity with which to build around. It’s one of the flatter drafts. We have Connelly and Gupta.

I think all these things and more are reasons why we can obtain a longer-term piece (or two) that sticks.

He had foot surgery in April. Not sure how long he'll be out of commission.

I have trouble seeing him as an NBA player. He can't shoot, is a poor defender and while a decent passer - is very careless with the ball.

I saw Matteo playing right in front of me, here in Germany. Unfortunately, he doesn't have NBA skills.

100% agree, he is not NBA material given that he doesn't excel in anything.

If we select two NBA ready players that can immediately fit: Baylor Scheierman as a movement shooter wing, KJ Simpson as Conley type of backup PG. Re-sign Anderson, Morris, Garza

Gobert/Reid/Garza
Towns/Anderson/Miller
McDaniels/Scheierman/Minott
Edwards/NAW/Moore + Clarke
Conley/Morris/Simpson

Scheierman as Sam Hauser, Simpson as Payton Pritchard.

I know people might not want to accept it but the article/tweet clearly says that we're interested in Bronny as a prospect. You don't try to organise a workout with someone to potentially trade them to the Lakers later.

Lets say we are able to draft Bronny at 37 and Lebron is willing to come here on a 15-16M deal to play with his son and try to win another title. Could we then arrange a deal with LeBron to come here in a sign and trade where we trade Naz and Wendell Moore for LeBron and pay LeBron the most we can with those trade assets? This begs the question as to why Lakers would help us out. Maybe they wouldn't even consider it, but maybe they might. LeBron could threaten to come here on an MLE if Lakers don't accommodate him and Naz is probably better than nothing, plus we might add a pick or pick swap as they probably don't want Wendell Moore's contract.

Wolves wouldn't be able to offer Lebron that kind of contract, second apron team like the Wolves can only offer the minimum (also can't aggregate players in a trade). That said at 37 for a team like the Wolves who have limited cards to play this offseason I think taking a gamble that Lebron might be willing to join to play for a legitimate title contender AND play with his son even if its only a 10% chance is worth it. The hit rate on second rounders is already low so if there is any chance you could use that pick to dramatically increase your chances a title over the next two years is worthwhile.

You don't trade Naz for a 41 year old LeBron. Ant, Naz and Jaden are the only core pieces you really have to have 3-5 years from now unless you can turn Naz or Jaden into a legit young superstar running mate for Ant.

Especially when Lebron can simply opt-out and sign if he'd like. Deadline for him to opt out is what 2 days after the draft?

I would turn Naz into two years of LeBron. We may only have one year of Naz and Naz was a net negative in the playoffs and LeBron has many rings and is made for the playoffs. If we could turn Naz into one title, I'd trade him 100 times out of 100. Plus, we got other young players and picks left that might even be better than Naz.
