Detroit, Hawks, NO's, not involving #1

Post#1 » by Whole Truth » Thu Jun 20, 2024 12:38 pm

Detroit trade - (Ivery, cap space) for (CJ, #21)

Hawks trade - (Capela) for (cap space)

NO's trade - (CJ, #21) for (Ivey, Capela)

Detroit could use spacing & after the season they just had, some veteran leadership, guidance.

Hawks trying to avoid the tax apron, dump an expiring for pure cap space.

NO's turn a veteran creator & elite floor spacer into a rental C & an upside guard. Buys them some time to address the hole at C & gives them an avenue to shed some future salary.

#21 is light, Pistons should consider it if it's the best of LAL/NOP pick in 25...

In the Detroit cap space thread, I worked out the NO's/Lakers 25 pick valued in the teens with lottery protection discussed with Oldncreeky,

The offer above of #21, was from another accepted trade in the Ivey value thread. It's better value for my team so I went with it.

Not sure what were the discussions, but selling 33mils in cap space and Ivey is worth more than #21, Ivey alone is worth more than #21 IMO, one could argue Ivey for #21, but combined with the cap space, it's really hard sell.

Please edit in reasons why each team should make the proposed trade per board policy.

Thanks!

This is way too good for New Orleans. They are giving up an albatross contract of a one way player for a quality big and a young guy who still has upside

I know CJ is a good shooter, but I'm not sure he offers enough else to make this trade make sense for Detroit. But, yeah, maybe with a slightly better pick.

I'd still rather aggregate Ivey with another asset or two in hopes of finding a quality 3 and D wing, but maybe we just try to draft that.

CJ, #21 wasn't mine. It was accepted value in the Ivey value thread of listed trades.

I discussed (CJ, NO's/lakers projected teens, lottery protection), with OnC & would be ok with that.

Atlanta want to start OO & draft a big, they have to move Capela & might squeeze some value for the expiring C but I assume where they sit financially, they'd prefer the salary dump to a late first & return salary. You mention CJ's contract but Capela is a declining player. I see nothing more than a stop gap option that buys NO's some time to fill a hole.

Ivey realizing his potential is unlikely but I am trading old for young & the disputed difference is a late pick vs one in the teens. This #21 was another posters trade in another thread based on valuing Ivey's value & it was not disputed. I went with it.

Now that I've suggested it & ripping off value, A 25 projected teens pick with lotto protection is what I negotiated with a Detroit mod.

Instead of starting a new thread what do Nets fans think of

Nets S&T (Claxton 20m) for (Ivey, #21)

Detroit trade (Ivey, 28m cap space) for (CJ, NO/Lakers lotto protected)

NO's trade (CJ, NO's/Lakers lotto protected) for (Claxton, 10m cap space)

Not enough value coming back

Would rather just gamble on Ivey's upside over a return like that

I took the #21 from the Ivey value thread.

I discussed the NO's/Lakers projected teen pick with lotto protection with OldnCreeky. Mention it later in this thread.

It's better but not the direction i would go

Would rather package him with something else and get a clear upgrade now

I like CJ, but not that contract. There are several teams that will want cap relief - I think Detroit can do better in a trade, or just using it themselves.

You don't see CJ as an upgrade ? or by upgrade you mean long term ?.

I'm aware CJ is a short term answer but he's shooting 42% on more than 8 APG & is an elite floor spacer, if Detroit looking for that, he should be considered an upgrade. To address the short term solution, is why the pick is offered as the long term value.

Yeah he's too old for us to consider a replacement for a 22 year old on the worst team in the league

Not that hes not a big upgrade though as well
