J.J. Redick, Lakers Agree To Four-Year Deal To Become Head Coach

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jun 20, 2024 7:16 pm

J.J. Redick has agreed to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year contract.

Redick was offered the job by Rob Pelinka on Thursday morning.

The Lakers and Redick plan on surrounding him with an elite coaching staff to help his learning curve in what is his first coaching job.

Redick had been linked to the Lakers' job since May when they parted ways with Darvin Ham.

The Lakers are not interested in winning. Just imagine if Lebron decided not to save them, they would still be trying to build around Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram.

This is not Ty Lue stepping into the Cavs with a young LBJ and Irving, or Steve Kerr with Curry, Klay, and Draymond. This is a guy with ZERO coaching experience and a roster that leaves a lot to be desired.

Maybe this goes really well. Personally though I don’t see how it can. I think this was a bad move for JJ but good luck to him.

$32 Mill a lot for someone who never coached a little league game...I hope he does well but coaching the Lakers is one of the worst jobs in basketball and this is coming from a Lakers fan.

B-B-B-But he has slick hair, just like Pat Riley! What could possibly go wrong?

I wonder if any of the Lakers' current shooting guards are demonstrably better than a soon-to-be 40 year old JJ Redick.

Wish JJ lots of success, hopefully he proves everyone wrong.

Unfortunately - his hiring sends the WRONG message all assistant & head coaches who have been putting in the timeless / tireless work for years only to never be given a chance to showcase their ability.

How JJ got the front of the line and landed the job with ZERO head coaching experience for the perhaps the marquee / most storied franchise will forever been mysterious. On top of that, to be compensated both in salary & contract duration like an upper tier coach is even more incredulous.

Lakers taking extremely high risk move - especially with the new cap rules set to take place.

I believe that Lebron was 32 when Lue stepped in... which is only young for Lebron. But similar to Lue, I think JJ will work well with Lebron be cause he'll be a "yes" man in the locker room. He will also work in LA because he's great with the media.

I don't think they'll win anything, but I believe JJ will be fine.

Echos of Steve Nash becoming H/C of the Nets with KD and Kyrie.

Steve Nash 2.0.

How long until he’s thrown under the bus.

Redick's $8m per for 4 years is roughly HALF that of the upper tier coaches. Hurley was offered 6 years, $70 mil, so Redick is about 30% less than that offer.

Yeah, how did same scenario work for Nets with Steve Nash. Expectations are nothing short of WCF for Lakers. Good luck JJ

I guess it’s a win for JJ either way. He’s gonna just Monty Williams their asses and collect a coaching check after getting fired and going back to media.

Big win for JJ but a huge loss for the numerous assistants around the league that were passed over for a guy that basically hasn't coached at any level. I predict JJ makes it through 2 or 3 years but gets fired before starting on the 4th year.

How is it a loss for any of them? Let alone ‘numerous’? It’s one job. Its only a loss for whoever would have gotten it otherwise. And what if they went with a former head coach who is not currently an assistant? Would that be a win for assitants?

Sorry, a "younger" LBJ
