The Bulls have been determined to find a playmaker to replace Lonzo Ball, and Giddey, 21, comes with an All-Star potential that would unlikely be realized with the Thunder because of the playmaking star power who surrounded him. Point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the MVP runner-up and there's an expectation that the franchise wants to give 7-footer Chet Holmgren even more playmaking duties.

Giddey was the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft and developed into one of the league's most creative young playmakers. The Bulls will offer him an opportunity to have the ball in his hands and more freedom to pass and score. Chicago needed an engine for its offense, and the Bulls land that with Giddey.

Giddey played a career-high 80 games for the Thunder this past season, but eventually started to come off the bench in the Western Conference playoffs. His scoring average dropped from 16.6 points to 12.3 points last season as his role with the Thunder evolved. Giddey has 11 career triple-doubles, fourth most by a player at age 21 or younger all-time, trailing only Luka Doncic, Magic Johnson and Ben Simmons, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

As a die-hard Bulls fan & Alex Caruso fan, this Giddey trade is really giving me mixed emotions. I understand the logic, if Chicago is finally going to move on from DeRozan & LaVine. Maybe they try to tank to keep their top-10 protected draft pick they owe to the Spurs. Caruso is 30 & probably gonna get expensive next year. Hopefully the Bulls will also get some type of pick compensation as well. As far as Giddey the player… he’s young enough to improve the shooting but likely a lifetime liability on the defensive end.

21 teams and 111 players/picks left to sort through. Every thread pulled knocks something out. This may end up having to be one enormous trade at this point.

Going to have to setup a spreadsheet with each team to make sure the cap all works before I start cutting and pasting because one team doing their math wrong can screw a lot of this offseason up.

I feel like follow up moves are needed and this trade is tough to judge in a vacuum until we see what else they do.

Bulls definitely need a shakeup but Caruso was like the last guy on the list I would have started with because you can kind of plug him in anywhere.

I love Caruso on OKC. He's going to be a menace next to SGA. That is like nearly 6 stocks a game just from your backcourt.

And now Caruso has chet rim protection behind him instead of Vuc who can't defend.

OKC is a legit finals threat and they have the assets and cap space to get even more pieces

It’s a weird trade cause OKC was basically benching him in the playoffs.

I fell like presti stole Alex and sold the bulls on something that might not be there.

The bulls should should of made Deing the target. Y’all have nobody on the roster like him.

They need a legit big. Which is unsettling.

They're my pick for the finals next season. That said, they were my pick this season too but the cast wasn't ready. My boy **** killed though.

How do you see this affecting Coby?

The United Center is the largest stadium in the league, hence the reason the Bulls lead the league in attendance every single year. Chicago fans are loyal, and will continue to fill the arena as long as there is something to cheer for. I think because of Coby’s big improvement & rapidly growing fan base, management was now more comfortable too attempt a young “re-tool”. Coby is locked in as a starter no matter what direction they go, but I truly hope this trade is just the first domino to young players only. Lavine salary dump. DeMar sign & trade. Hope for a medical retirement from Lonzo so insurance reimburses for that contract. Draft best player available with the 11th pick. Resign Patrick Williams. Try to trade Vucevic but he is fine to keep around because he really isnt helping win many games, not ball dominant, & still a good enough screener, passer, & rebounder to help young talent improve the right way. See what pieces come back in the trades but focus on develop of the young guys and hopefully have a chance at Cooper Flagg
