Absolutely, Giddy's value was non-existent due to his issues off the court, we're giving away a championship caliber All-NBA defender who plays both sides of the ball. Not to mention OKC has the most draft capital in the NBA.

100% nonsense.

I know you make ZERO sense.

Hate to keep saying but but if you've seen what has happened to the White Sox, none of this is surprising.

Oh yeah. They're the Bulls if Jordan never existed. MJ just bought the Bulls 3 decades of (otherwise unearned) goodwill. The stench of the reinsdorfs simply cannot be denied.

Why would we assume that Giddey starts? He very well may play off the bench.

Yeah, zero percent change of this happening, at least to start the season, IMO.

That's equivalent to saying that there is zero chance that Zach remains on our roster, which I jave a very hard time believing.

If we don't flip Giddey, I'm guessing he plays "point forward" to lead the bench unit. Both because that will probably help us most next year, and cause it will depress his value going into RFA next summer.

Definitely increases the chance that Patrick is traded IMO.

I love it. Here is a hodgepodge of thoughts about it.

1. Caruso HAD to go. I wrote in the draft thread maybe a week ago about how people had to come to grips with the Caruso diminution of trade value, that it would be real. That this is what AK has been doing and is going to continue to do. Giddy is a significantly better and more well known get than a first rounder would have been, including OKC's 12. Which I would have taken for Caruso in a heartbeat.

2. I will certainly miss Caruso, the rare player who in a short time - especially considering the meager results of the team - became an all-time Bulls legend. But I am really happy for him that he's headed to an elite young team to contend for a title right away. What a great fit for OKC.

3. Love the fit with Giddy but admittedly have always been a fan of his multifaceted game. The shot is shaky of course but even without it I feel Giddy is a very flexible piece for rebuilding and adapting rosters. And I love his desired pace of play, which will fit beautifully with how Coby and Ayo want to play, how Pat and Lonzo play best (of they return). This is in fact my favorite element of this trade.

4. I love what it might signify. I have stated repeatedly my fear that this offseason's moves would be driven by the misguided priority of retaining DDR. Trading Caruso certainly does not help with the sales pitch to a guy who wants to win to at least some degree in his next uniform. Giddy is 21. Is this the first shift towards tearing it down to rebuild? Is DDR next?

5. Pros and cons to Giddy's deal on having one year left. I wish we could get a two year sniff. But the timing is good. His value is not especially high right now so his ask next summer might not be too high for us to get a two year/third year team option for him to get that longer look. Or he really blossoms and we have a guy we want to pay.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Not playing him at PG heavily detracts from his on-court value. A 6'8" PG is a luxury, a 6'8" PF is run of the mill.

So he'll definitely be our backup center then.

I disagree because Giddey is 21 years old. That is a huge change. It basically gives some indicators that we are going with a youth movement.

Again, look at his year 2 stats. That is the actual trajectory.

We'll only know that once we see what happens with DDR.

AK might think of Giddey as a Lonzo replace and not so much as a youth movement.

Woj specifically said in one of his tweets that he was viewed as a replacement for the Lonzo playmaking they’ve been missing.

Makes me think they may well waive Lonzo or seek medical retirement.

I thought AK wanted to add shooting to the team? So much for that...

Giddey is young, so in that sense I can understand taking a chance on him. But if it was up to me I'd rather get a pick in the draft (maybe more?) and take a chance on an unknown quantity.

OKC has a thousand picks, they couldn’t get 1?

Hate to be this guy but i'm pretty positive 21 year old Giddey would go #1 in this years draft. I'm thrilled with this haul. I hope they announce picks later but hey, this is a good young player who we have team control over and who's game theoretically can improve other pieces on our roster with his playmaking. Lets give him the keys, anything has been better than what we've been watching.

What positions, if any, can Giddey defend? I don't care what "position" he plays on offense. Very curious about his defense.

They can try to seek medical retirement, but my guess is Lonzo wants to play and will make an attempt to do so before they can go in that direction.

Waive him...do you mean stretch out his salary? That would be a terrible move IMO. I guess that means AK will probably do it! haha. Sigh.

This is a good trade imo.

Giddey has bust potential, but he is still very young and clearly has talent. Very good asset to get back for what remains of Caruso's contract.

AC is a back to back All-NBA Defense, where is the rest of the complensation especially with Giddey's value being so low with his off the court situation last season.

We have the most incompetent management in the NBA besides the **** show in Detroit.

Giddy’s value was down because of his shooting performance this season. The sleeping with the minor thing ended up becoming nothing and no charges were filed. I’d imagine it had roughly zero impact on his value. The NBA is full of valued players with way worse on their records.

This trade could be the beginning of a rebuild, wouldn't be surprised to see White or Ayo moved as well. The backcourt is full, no one is taking Ball's expiring contract.
