Anyway, in theory, Giddey fits next to Coby + LaVine + Pat. In contrast, no real scenario where he fits well with DDR. Does this mean that AKME is pivoting, giving up on trading LaVine (for zero value) and resigning DDR (at excess cost)?

The question is whether the Bulls are trading LaVine AND DeRozan, not whether they are trading LaVine OR DeRozan.

LaVine is gone and it’s mind-boggling to keep seeing people think otherwise. The only way LaVine is back is if the Bulls literally cannot find anyone to take him or would need to attach assets to move him.

Which may well be the case. There may be zero key for LaVine out there. Reports of the Bulls going to 15 teams and offering Zach for packages they come up are the opposite of encouraging on that front - they suggest that despite the FO being fairly obviously desperate to move Zach for anything of marginal value… they can’t (and instead would have to attach assets).

It wasn’t 15 teams. It was 15 trade ideas proposed to a smaller group of teams.

I read nothing in the lack of Zach movement at this point until draft night is here. If the draft passes, then I’m concerned.

If this ACTUALLY signals the beginning of a rebuild then that completely changes my perception of the trade.

But I'll believe it when I see it.

Giddey will play a lot like Lonzo without the high volume 3pt shooting. He will score more in the paint and FTs.

The ball will fly around and we will should greatly improve in 3p attempts.

Coby Pat and Ayo should all really improve. Could see all of them shooting 6+ 3s per game.

I think him and Coby White are very much "combo guards" neither is a true PG but can handle it while also being a "scorer".

It reminds me similarly to 2003-2004 with Kirk Hinrich and Jamal Crawford starting together

Giddey got benched because he can't defend or shoot in,
the playoffs, and the Bulls decide to trade their best asset for him? On top of him being a terrible fit with DeMar and Vuc.

Props to AK for not giving a crap about the fit next to Nikola freaking Vucevic and a 35 year-old free agent.

He plays SG because Shai plays PG. Here he'll play PG.

Thanks. That makes sense.

Per 36 last year Giddey averaged 18, 9, and 7 with a steal and a block with a 55 TS%

He's a stat sheet stuffer and looks like our Lonzo replacement as a big playmaking PG. Not sure about his defense, but hopefully he continues to improve his shot.

I kinda like it? I hate losing Caruso and I really wish we could have gotten some kind of picks as well, but taking a gamble on a big, young PG who can do a little bit of everything isn't terrible.

I'll refrain from making any underage jokes.

Maybe now we'll look to dump Lonzo for whatever we can get.

I am Giddey about it

Yeah we know, you're Giddey about everything this organization does.

Giddy4Giddey

Wow pulling a child dating rabbit out of a hat! There has to be an injury or suspension or something incoming for Giddey. No idea why OKC makes this trade…

Also, what an absolute joy AC has been. Just everything you need in a vet. I am glad he gets to be the glue for a championship caliber team. I hope they title next year.

The other way to look at it is we're not going anywhere this season anyway and we would have had to either overpay for an aging Caruso or lost him for nothing after this season, but now we at least have a young productive player with great size for his position in exchange for him.

So we'll be slightly worse in the short term...so what? We're not even a playoff team.

We just saw Giddey be absolutely unplayable vs the Mavs in the playoffs.

Perhaps we should worry about getting to the playoffs before we worry about playing in the playoffs?

I'm kinda surprised at the general negativity on the deal, because I remember at the deadline most people did not think Caruso was was going to return even 1 pick (so we should keep him). Giddey was a #6 pick and probably going to be better than most of the 1st round in this draft.

Yea but he's basically got a one year audition here. For a team that finds itself struggling to keep RFA (or the right ones) we're going to be pressed into another decision next summer.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

It makes less sense to bring back DeMar now, right? Might as well just go all in for Flagg.
