I think Pistons could put clauses in the contract to remove any risk. Bridges has to be expecting that.

I've been pretty consistent in saying I don't want Miles Bridges on this team.

Claxton on this squad would be perfect. Hopefully, target #1.

Historically our team has done a ton of favors for the Nets and the fact that Arn Tellum's son works for them makes me think that we 100% are not going after their FA.

I'm expecting his agents to play hardball. If the contract could be risk hedged, Charlotte would happily do it and keep him.

I actually really like the idea of a big unguaranteed contract.

I don't want to commit any big long-term money to centers that can't spread the floor anyways, but I don't see a world where Brooklyn is going to let a team like Detroit offer more money. Brooklyn doesn't control their own picks. They can't just punt an asset away and get worse overnight.

Claxton is very unlikely to see this situation as better than playing in NYC to the point where he'll choose the Pistons if money isn't a factor.

I also don't see Claxton as this one-man defensive game changer that I think people want him to be. He's an elite switcher for a 5 but that' because he has the bulk of a slim wing and can't guard 5's. He has plenty of flaws. I tend to think finding the right center to commit to will take patience. Would rather spend the money elsewhere and upgrade the center spot by moving Duren to the bench and starting Stewart at C for now.

Keep looking in the draft for a C that can protect the rim, stretch the floor, and be a lob threat. That's the missing link here that will unlock everything.

Claxton is an elite rim protector. Hope the Pistons go above and beyond to nab him.

25 a year should do it.

That leaves us w $35M. Do we need shooters more than a rim protector? I’m not against Claxton, just trying to figure out how to spread the free agency dollars around.

I was just discussing this with my brother. Having that shot-blocking presence, and lob threat in one, is a must have. If your going to dedicate to Claxton, who fits alongside him?

Let's say Stewart starts back at the 5, and Claxton at the 4. You then have it all, to a certain degree. With that said, can you start Ausar alongside that frontcourt? I would love to somehow wrestle Markkanen out of Utah;

Cade

Ausar
Markkanen
Claxton

Thats not realistic, so what your going to need is a pure scorer at the 2, next to Cade. Maybe with the right coaching Ivey could be that guy, but is his shooting enough? Maybe a player like Lavine.

Cade
Lavine
Ausar
Claxton
Stewart

The team is so poorly built, its hard to mix and match.

Defensive Field Goal % within 6 feet of the rim:

Duren: 63.1%
Claxton: 55.6%
Stewart: 52.3%
Gobert: 49.4%

There are levels to this. Pure shot blocking stats don't tell the whole story. Like I said, his elite skill is switching onto smaller players, which is nice to have, but he still gives up quite a lot inside.

I would rather Duren start and Stewart be traded. In your scenario, I would then trade Duren.

Monk off the table already. 4/78 return to Sacramento. Welp, it begins.

19.5 per is less than he would've cost us. No worries, though. Not enough D.

Thankful Monk is off the board.

He's awesome as a 6th Man but we'd be expecting him to be a starter here which takes him out of his perfect role.

Yeah…

That cap space was never what it was cracked up to be. Strap in.

He took less than I figured it would cost too.

I generally think it’s bad for a team with cap space when someone resigns with their team.

Wow Monk off the board too. (I'm glad) Man o man Free Agency isn't what it once was that's for sure. Makes hitting on your draft picks that much more critical.

I just want to grab Caleb Martin & Naji Marshall and call it a day. Absorb bad deals but actually get an asset or over pay 1 year deals in FA.

I can't recall a player leaving the Heat and maintaining their form but between Martin, Marshall, Monk, Melton, Jonas V, Bridges, Jones and Tobias we might actually be better served looking at teams at or above the tax apron and getting value players that way.
