I really think the major moves made this offseason will be done by trades. Any remining cap space will be used to get role players to surround Paolo, Franz, and Suggs.

The off-season rarely turns out the way fans think it should.

This is true. However, as I don't believe George, Klay, and Monk are idea fits and I think the moves have to be made by trades.

I’m guessing Monk valued the years and four years may have been a stopping point for certain teams.

While I like Monk, I was less keen than most about his fit on the Magic (especially as people were pencilling him in as a starter). His boom or bust style of play really is perfect in that 6th man spot and our rotation style staggers Franz in a way that almost makes him a 6th man at times.

Im still thinking it is going to be a surprising trade or Tyus Jones, but that may be wishful thinking on my part as I do not want to commit to Klay Thompson for what it may take for him to leave GS. I also would really rather get a PG and have Suggs as our starting SG.

Sigh.. my dream acquisitions has been blown away.

First Grayson Allen signed an extension
Now Monk has also signed an extension

Now slapping myself to pump up a Klay or PG signing

If we’re lucky enough Klay resigns with GS

Interesting. Maybe this makes us go for a guard in the draft. Carrington?

Monk on 19,5M a year is good value for combo guard who can start and come off bench nad occupy PG & SG position.

Monk on 15 ppg, 5 apg & 52,6% eFG, if duplicated, would be on Magic:

3# scorer
2# apg player ( 0,3 behind Paolo)
eFG higher than 3 Magic starters ( Fultz, Franz, Paolo)

:dontknow:

Guy is 26, should be good contract, and very tradeable one , if needed.

My shinny Penny is Melton (cheap 4 yr deal) but I could see us offering a ballooned 1+1 contract to Klay too

Fit more than anything else.

Need elite outside shooting, secondary playmaking and defense above the garbage tier.

Also needs to be a starter level player that will not require a huge contract.

Tough to find a guy that checks all the boxes. Murray, Simons, Klay all fall short of the perfect piece.

I'm holding out hope for Ingram or Simons in a trade.

I was excited for Monk to be so gettable…but, ultimately, he’s where he belongs at a salary he deserves.

Hope this means a step up the ladder of candidates

That's a shame, Monk would've been a great add.

I am a bit surprised the Magic (or any other cap space team) wasn’t willing to go past 4/78 for Monk.
