You're not gonna have to "pony up" to re-sign Isiaha Joe lol. Dort is obviously the prize and perfectly slots in next to Dame. I think the real 4D chess move is to get a 3rd team involved and also grab a big making under $6.5 mil (Nick Richards, Duop Reath, Dean Wade) for 100% salary matching or less purposes. Voila, turn Brook into two rotation players and still have Bobby plus your picks to either keep or use in another trade.

I’ve always wanted Lu Dort on the Bucks. That would be great.

Unless they're also throwing in Vince Williams Jr., us (we should at least).

What if they add some future picks….which we need?

Well, here's that indication I was saying we hadn't gotten yet yesterday.

League personnel told Yahoo Sports the Bucks are open to reshaping their roster, and they are gauging the trade value for Brook Lopez. Houston, sources said, cautioned Lopez that re-signing with Milwaukee could very well lead to him eventually being traded when the Rockets pursued Lopez in free agency a year ago.

Get Portland involved and try to do a Lopez/Pat C for Robert Williams/Smart/filler?

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas - Darvin Returns
I think trading Bobby is the more straight-forward move, because Brook can still start for a period, & situationally finish. Don't feel comfortable w/ Bobby doing either these days. Would have been different a year and a half ago, before the knee injury that made his athleticism insufficient to supply any type of d & not be a rebounding force.
And I think it's easier to replace Bobby's bench role thru our draft pick(s). In addition trading players at the same position doesn't make much sense because in most cases they might as well keep their guy. I'm the reverse John Hammond that way. The big should be used to acquire the starting 3&d 2 sg, while probably a pick for a big in this draft especially.

Also, interesting note on Detroit shopping Isaiah Stewart, too.

Maybe I shouldn't, but I actually have a lot of faith in Horst making creative moves that make sense on their face. That said, hard to say to what extent he's even in charge anymore.

When do we think trades will start going down (for the Bucks)? Draft day?

I know he can kinda fell flat on his face in Philly (with the exception of that one playoff game), but I keep coming back to Buddy Hield as a potential target for Orlando as a 1 year, buy low type of alternative to the Klay/Monk targets.
The center market sounds unsurprisingly muddled with more supply than demand. Not great for us potentially moving Brook, but I suppose on the flipside it's good news if we do move him and need to find a replacement.
And I still think Detroit is in an intriguing spot; it just feels like a very bad idea to me to punt on yet another season and lock Cade in to a max contract without ever even winning 25 games in his tenure there. I still think they should either look to trade him or bring on some vets that fit around him to see if he can really sink or swim. Being merely a team for better teams to dump unwanted salary on while still pretending to care about Cade feels like a terrible idea to me.

There aren't sufficient grounds for either of those statements.
The "creative" moves involved just throwing a ton of future picks (he's exhausted) for name, old guys, who've had mixed results here.
And Giannis has influenced a limited amount of moves, which is likely waning based on past results & his extension. There's nothing suggesting the newest ownership team is overly meddlesome like Lasry.

The trades for Hill, Tucker, Crowder, and Mirotic were all unusually structured. They didn't all work out but they are examples of getting the player you want for very little.
Ownership went over Horst's head for both of the last two coaching hires, so let's not pretend.

Vince Williams? I love it. Then send Smart somewhere else, we don't need guards that can't shoot the 3.

It almost always involves giving up a lot of future draft capital (sacrifice of some from a win now is boiler plate), for less equivalent present value because the return is a declining name. Together they make an excessively old team, which has been a problem since the bubble yr, and he never learns from that mistake. Plus he's potentially doomed the next GM.

Giannis is not the Bucks' owner. He might be in the future after all the $ he's made, but not right now.
Who did Horst want instead of Doc? I don't recall that credible reporting they forced his hand.

Yes, but they likely won't go official until the new league year. We'll have more flexibility then.

I had much more faith in Horst tinkering around the edges of the team when he had a Top-5 coach to coordinate roster construction with. It makes it so much easier on a GM when they know exactly what kind of pieces and skill sets fit within a coach's proven system. I don't have that same faith in Doc, but hey, we did just see two mediocre-to-arguably-bad coaches meet in this year's Finals, so the "talent > everything else" mantra still applies in the NBA.

I feel the core justification around here to keep Brook around is that Giannis doesn't want to deal with the physicality all season. Which is insane whether it's true or not, because Giannis is bar none the most physical player in the league. If that's the motivation, though, Goga can do that. Tony Bradley can do that. There are a ton of guys who will fight like hell for that spot.
There's a huge difference between Giannis delivering aggression and physicality on offense vs the wear and tear of being leaned on and battling with 7 fters for 30+ minutes every night. As much as Giannis doesn't want to do it I'd guess the team wants no part of that either.

If Doc convinced the Bucks that we need to move on from Lopez to optimize the team for the playoffs, then we're far better off with Doc than Bud.
