Thunder Acquire Alex Caruso From Bulls For Josh Giddey

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jun 20, 2024 9:29 pm

The Oklahoma City Thunder are acquiring guard Alex Caruso from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for wing Josh Giddey. The Thunder are adding a defensive-minded presence to their mix, while the Bulls add a younger, playmaking wing to their roster.

Both Caruso and Giddey are in entering the final years of their contracts. The Thunder are reportedly interested in extending Caruso's deal before he hits unrestricted free agency next summer.

The Bulls will have an opportunity to offer Giddey a rookie scale extension. If no deal is reached, Giddey will be eligible for restricted free agency in the summer of 2025.

Great for both teams. Curious to see Giddey on ball more. I think he'll do well.

Although I still think Chicago fumbled this to an extent, I think Giddey does well with more opportunities in Chicago.

CHI could have extracted at least a solid SRP or something further for a defender and all-around baller like Caruso.

Plus Presti can hardly count his entire stash of draft assets at this stage.

Guy lands Caruso and doesn't give up a single pick. Legend.

This feels like okc sold low. No offense to Caruso, he's a great player every team wants and he makes okc better...but Giddey is a top 10 pick still on rookie scale. He clearly will get a lot better with more opportunity.

The only thing I see here is Giddeys value tanked big time after his situation. Maybe no one wants to play with him, maybe even people on OKC

Great pick up for CHI if they go full rebuild cause Giddey/Lavine/White is an odd fit

I like Caruso... but comparing him to Iggy is a stretch!

Good move by OKC. It doesn't matter where Giddy was picked, he is not better than Caruso and unlikely to ever be as good as Caruso is now.

Couldnt agree more this was dumb by Chicago Giddy is not a good enough he isnt defensively quick enough and he cant shoot he can playmake but will be played off the court he isnt simmons who is just a monster athetically pre back injury

Nowhere near as good as Iggy. Iggy was paid near a max contract back in his day.. The warriors were stacked.. AC is a very very good role player though but Iggy is just better and way more offensively versatile.

Dort, Caruso, and SGA on the perimeter is going to cause opposing perimeter players fits. That said, Giddy, IMO, is a special type of player. Yes, he has controversy surrounding him, and I'm sure that is resonating with players/teammates, but he has the skill set to really change a game. Chicago may have a real building block in him.

I've become a fan from afar of OKC. From Presti, to the coaching staff, and their group of players. There is a lot to like there as a fan of the game. Similarly, as someone who grew up during the Bulls three-peats, it will be equally rewarding to see Chicago return to competitive relevance.

I think it's a good deal for both teams. Bravo.

Because other than the fact Caruso is not that great (he is good), Giddey is top 10 pick on the rookie scale contract, which is a high-end worth by itself.

Wiseman was a #1 pick - and your point?

Caruso EASILY holds more value in this league compared to Giddey.

Enjoy your reality.

More defensively versatile as well, guarding 4 positions. Iggy would be guarding Luka or Tatum. That won't be Caruso's role.

They won't resign DeRozan, will they?
