Re: Free Agency
The people here who dislike all of the larger names in free agency could very easily get their wish.
We could end up with none of them. Which leaves minor players and whoever teams are willing to part with for free with cap space.
This was the worst offseason to go all in on.

How is this all in?
Malik Monk re-signing with Sacramento doesn't make the offseason a disaster, lets put this in perspective.
Teams aren't generally built through free agency, just look at the last two champs as a prime example that drafted the core players and traded for the support players so I think we need to let this play out longer than a few days after the season ended to see how the offseason plays out.

I think he means in terms of saving up all our cap space for free agency. Not a ton of options to spend it this offseason. But honestly, there wasn't last offseason either and there usually won't be. Best use of that cap space is hopefully to win on some trades with cap strapped teams.

Exactly, free agency means nothing. Monk isn't the savior.
As I mentioned before, lets look at the key players on the last two championship teams...
Tatum - Drafted
Brown - Drafted
Holliday - Traded for
White - Traded for
Porzingis - Traded for
Horford - Traded for
Jokic - Drafted
Murray - Drafted
Gordon - Traded for
KCP - Traded for
Porter - Drafted
Not one free agent making impacts on the best teams.
Bottom line? They need to identify the core they want to move forward with, trade out the ones that don't fit for players that do fit. The Monks and Claxtons of the world aren't elevating them to playoff contender.

We went all in on having cap space this season.
A season with few options.

Yes there are options, teams use cap space on traded players all the time. The Pistons, just like every other team, need to find smart trades to fill out the roster around the core and also pick which core guys they want to build around, none of the Pistons core was drafted by Langdon so I expect big changes if not this season then next.
The reality is that free agency isn't what it used to be. Guys now get more money signing with their own teams so you need to take advantage of a team that has cap issues, has a redundant player that doesn't fit or a disgruntled player. The guys that hit free agency nowadays are role players and role players that will get overpaid heavily.

He's a terrible defender and an inneficient scorer, has terrible attitude and he is a piece of **** as a human being. Why would you want him?
Fontecchio is a much better player than Miles Bridges

Re: Free Agency
But yet people EVERY year always comes with this stupid strategy of punting capspace "because next year's free agent class looks loaded" and like clockwork it NEVER plays out that way because guys sign extensions before free agency starts.Snakebites wrote:NYPiston wrote:Snakebites wrote:The people here who dislike all of the larger names in free agency could very easily get their wish.

And I wouldn’t advocate trading for Gores either. We’re stuck with him though.
No Miles Bridges please.
We need solid role players. We’re unlikely to get game changing players (which Bridges isn’t anyway) but at the very least we should land reliable stable players who solidify the culture. Miles is none of that.

Re: Free Agency
They might be looking to shed Collins. I'd be interested in Collins if he came with a sweetener or Hendricks for a minimal return to them (like Hendricks for Sasser? All day, every day. Hendricks + asset for Ivey? Could see it).

Re: Free Agency
Yeah I wouldn’t view Collins as a long term piece there.
Still slightly puzzling.
I think Tobias is a solid fit on bad teams. He’s a good locker room guy who can be productive if the games aren’t super important. If he’s not super expensive I wouldn’t hate us signing him for a couple years.
