Considering this is widely regarded as a weak draft, someone's gonna take a flyer on Edey earlier imo

I'd be shocked if Edey was there at 24. We'd probably need to trade up and take Dunn at 38. Also, we haven't even worked Edey out. Like how could anyone know we have interest in him?

I have zero scouting abilities, but that guy's jumper looks like it takes a million years to load up.

His moves also look mechanical, though at least he has them, unlike Mitch.

What is he flying up from? Late 2nd to early 2nd?

Sam Vecencie says there's some first round buzz for him. Whether that happens or not, I'm not sure. From what I've read the dude is hyper competitive with a good motor and makes me think that fits really well here.

I think that if they can manage this that it can turn out to be a great draft.

Edey is extremely talented, it's just a matter of seeing if his game can fit in the NBA and, probably more importantly, if his game can evolve. To determine whether someone can or can't evolve you have to get an understanding of their mentality, their desire, their competitiveness. Things you can't really see by looking at highlight reels. That's something that the Knicks FO and their scouts seem to have some advantage over the average given the guys they have already drafted. So if they draft Edey I'll assume that they have a good feel that his game can evolve and he can make the necessary adjustments to be able to get meaningful minutes and assume a meaningful role in the NBA. If you can get someone like that at 24 or 25 in the draft, you will have won.

Dunn IMHO absolutely can be a top tier defender in the NBA and there's always a need even in today's NBA. If he can't figure out a way to contribute offensively it doesn't mean he can't contribute. It just means he may not be able to start or et starters minutes depending on what other players on on the team. But minimally I see little issue why he can't be a rotation player (a la Thybulle). Thybulle averages 21 mpg and has started in 1/3 of the games he's played in the NBA. If you can get a part time starter that can consistently get 21mpg at the bottom of the 1st you do it every time. A bigger and stronger Thybulle (who made the NBA All Defensive 2nd team twice in 5 years) can make a big impact especially in the Knicks system and, as I've mentioned before, can be used specifically against their biggest obstacle when it comes to getting to the finals (talking the Celtics and their 2 superstar wings).

Id much rather either guy than the gaggle of college wings that can score a little, shoot a little and otherwise do well in college. Jack of all trade college players that aren't themselves dominant in college rarely find a niche in the NBA.

Not familiar with him but, I mean the stats are pretty impressive to say the least. 18.6ppg, 12.9rpg, 1.7bpg, 57%fg, 37%3pt (albeit on just 1.5 attempts per game). That's for a 6'7" skinny dude.

Akron is in the MAC which doesn't exactly have the greatest teams or the toughest competition is the thing. But still for a guy that's only 6'7" to grab near 13 rebounds a game is a good indicator that he's a relentless dog with very good feel for at least that end of the court.

He also does come off as quite intelligent in the draft combine interviews.

If you compare him to Ryan Dunn, for example and for arguments sake, they have similar builds and strengths, Dunn is much more fluid and explosive. Freeman may have a little more offensive shot creating potential but Dunn has Freeman beat by a mile in the defensive category (and Freeman is supposed to have defense as his bread and butter).

The basic stats would indicate that Freeman is much better than Dunn but that's grossly misleading as Freeman was clear and by far the best player on the Akron team. The rebounds also can be quite a bit misleading as despite being only 6'7" and 205lbs, Freeman was their defacto "big man".

Freeman himself said he believes he's a 4 in the NBA and that's kinda what he played at Akron. I'm not sure how well he'd translate to the NBA to be honest.

I would just take Dunn if I were the Knicks as Dunn is without question going to be able to translate his defense to the NBA. No question.

I was a fan of Herb Jones and he was the glue guy in Alabama even then. His first 2 years are nearly identical to Dunn, who only played 2 years. Jones didn't start shooting until his fourth year. But according to the eye test, I'd argue Dunn is the better defender, especially vertically. Dunn is also the better athlete and finisher than Jones. The only reason I soured on Dunn was because he was listed much bigger than what he measured even though he's exactly the same size as Jones. He might be the steal of the draft.

Dunn could be a smokescreen. We’ve never really known who the Knicks liked this far out since Rose took over, save for Ivey who went way higher than they had any chance to get. Dunn has been doing workouts with team in the late lottery too. :dontknow:

If they'll pay Mitch 18, they'll pay Dunn 2M.

They should do that, at least some, except our FO in previous drafts did the exact opposite

The Obi draft year they were all

Were they? I though Obi was slotted to go to before we picked.

I sort of remember hearing they really wanted Obi the day before, not a week before. We were still being slotted for Vassell (imagine if they had drafted Vassell :nonono: )

He was, at least by some. That's why they tried to trade up with Cleveburg (took Okoro) to no avail. I guess the FO thought since Dayton is also in Ohio, Cleveland was the biggest threat to take Obi(?). Thankfully Cleveland saved us from ourselves by saying no. You wonder what else we would have given up in that deal

Edey is going to get eaten in the beginning. I'd even bring in Drummond on the cheap before drafting Edey.

Hold on to those 2025 picks. A 7'9" college player might be the Knicks feature target. :D
