I didn’t read that part but that would be next year, not this season. There’s no option this year, and an option can only be on the final year of a deal.

Yes, that's next year but no extension expected this year. It was in his email to subscribers.

Why is Substack dude Agnes ? saying next up decision is on Nembhard now that Siakam is decided ??? He’s leading me to believe that something is going to be decided soon ?? I don’t get why he’s saying that if the Pacers don’t need to do anything now ???

He's extension eligible now. That's technically a decision but he should decline to become a free agent as soon as possible.

Technically, he’s not extension eligible until July 22. Legally, he and Indy shouldn’t even be discussing an extension until then, as he doesn’t fall into the early discussion category. But….

My best guess is 36 replaces Doug or Stix, one of the low picks gets a two way, and the other plays abroad for a year or three.

Last night I watched Facci and Golden’s newest YouTube video on their top 10 free agency players that possibly could be brought to Indy. They’re knowledgeable however seem to be more fans than reporters.

Some players were not that realistic gets such as M. Bridges, Caldwell Pope, and OG requiring major trades.

Some were based on using the mid level exception to facilitate. Other less expensive players were by trying to get them on the cheap because teams need to unload salary.

Their targets were mostly back up experienced 5’s and wings for defense. Some interesting names I hadn’t thought of and some I had. I’ve never heard Pacer fans wanting Nickeil Alexander, Kevon Looney, or Naz Reid.

In conclusion I don’t take a lot of stock into the Pacers acquiring low cost veterans this offseason but fun to watch speculation and see how others look at possible targets.

I VERY RARELY listen to Setting the Pace. Mostly just any important interview episodes (like when they have Chad Buchanan or a player on). They’re fun, but they should be taken as a fan show. Whereas, I OFTEN listen to Basketball She Wrote, where Caitlin Cooper can be seen as an expert on X’s and O’s And play, and Locked on Pacers, where Tony East can be seen as an actual beat reporter and knowledgeable “source”.


Absolutely no personal issues with Facci and Golden, though. I just feel like I’m able to “scratch my itch” of talking and listening to Pacers fans here.

I like and respect Caitlin for her basketball knowledge and film study skills. The plays she points out sometimes I already understand the concepts or points she’s making so I feel like no big deal. Some plays she highlights are good though because she lets you slow down a play you just saw during a recent game.

The one thing that she does differently is use modern day fancy terms describing plays. Being old school I could do without all the new terminology that they’re using in describing today’s game.

I guess I'm kinda the opposite of Pacers Forever here. I really enjoy the game, but there are a lot of the nuances that I miss. There are a lot of the terms used now that I don't initially grasp. Usually with Caitlin, I almost always learn something that I hadn't picked up on before (like the small adjustments that Myles uses when setting a screen, in terms of the angle, that help & communicate with Ty).

I also learn the current terminology for things I may understand, but didn't get that the current term for it is 'xxxxxxx'. I was away from watching basketball for a bit, nothing more than a casual game here & there,... It's been a long time since I actually studied the game in any form (ok,... going back to Hank Iba's 'The Triple Post',... ) So for me, Basketball She Wrote & the video breakdowns, have become my shorthand, cheat code to a better understanding of the actions.

I can easily see where someone more in touch with the current X's & O's in the game wouldn't get the same benefit. So, not disagreeing, just recognizing that we aren't in the same place understanding the game. Your knowledge of the current game is probably much better than mine.

Me too until I hear someone else use it and realize she’s very dialed in to the current NBA speak.

Caitlin does bring up different views or angles of seeing the game. Unfortunately I can’t subscribe for many reasons currently to see more of her content.

I don’t think Obi walks. I’m sure he likes it here and Buchanan made it public that they like his fit and want him back if the money can be worked out. If Obi is back we then have solid depth at every position.

I wonder with all the current young talent which should mature over the offseason will the Pacers use a gamble strategy by loading the last 6 spots (13-15 and the 3 two way slots) with all draft prospects, Mad Ants, or undrafted players instead of any low cost vets for 1 year ???

Think about it. Sure we would like to have the strongest veteran team that money can secure. However spots 13-15 and the 2 ways may not see the court much this upcoming season with our youth commanding more minutes.

That would be 5-6 gambles on finding a couple diamonds in the rough from this year’s draft prospects and from last year’s Mad Ants like Wong, Q. Jackson, and Tshiebwe. Who knows they might hit on a few players that can develop into role defenders.
