Let Multiple Players Walk-Away
Forgive me as I am not as experienced as other regular Posters and this may be a far-fetched idea...
Why not let much of the Team just walk? Several did not show up for the Playoffs or were irrelevant. When I say "walk", I'm meaning if their contracts permit the FO to exercise this option.
For example, this way the Magic can sign/trade for 2 starters. Then, after the 3 core players + 2 new starters are secured,
just sign low priced players to complete the roster.
Thoughts?

Re: Let Multiple Players Walk-Away
Here's who can walk away (or get shoved out the door)...
Fultz, Harris, Goga are UFA's ...I think they're all gone. Possibly bringing back Goga - if it's a similar nearly vet-min deal.
Okeke, Kevon, Queen, and Schofield are RFA's...I think they're all gone - unless two-way deal or G-League
Ingles and Mo Wagner are Team Options...I think Mo stays and is possibly waived and extended for less per year. If Ingles is re-upped,
it means they didn't do enough. I don't mind keeping both at all...but the cap space could be used for bigger purposes.
Isaac and Houstan are non-guaranteed...I think they're both back. Houstan would be an easy waive, but he's only $2m and is useful

Re: Let Multiple Players Walk-Away
Good analysis...
I'd let Fultz, Harris, Okeke, Kevon, Schofield, Ingles, Cole all walk. Show them the door.
Keep Mo, Houstan, Goga
How much $$ can be accrued with letting the above 7 players walk?
Isaac and Black go in a trade.

Cole's brand new extension kicks in at $13m - he's not a walker, but I'd trade him for a late frp happily. I think he's out of a job either way - but I don't think he's a player without talent, upside or value...Just not sure who covets him.

Why did the Magic extend Cole? He's tiny, can't defend, and is nothing but a bench player.

Re: Let Multiple Players Walk-Away
I’m fine letting all those players walk.
Harris likely has a small amount of value and bringing him back with a reduced role and less money may make sense if there is no one else signing with us.
I’m not thrilled about this but could see Fultz being the 3rd PG on vet minimum. Weltman talked about betting on the individual and why Magic suck with JI.
Fultz is a great dude, teammates love him, and at vet minimum with reduced role reduces most the risk with Fultz.
Sure get someone better if we can or draft a 3rd string PG but I do see Fultz with a reduced footprint as a possiblity.

Cole was getting 6th man talk the way he started the season.
He can create his own shots which is still pretty important. I get why we resigned.
I do think he could be moved mid season in a trade.

Agree...I don't regret the Cole extension and I really like the guy and think he can be impactful, here or elsewhere. I really like Presti's parting statement on Giddey...basically that the team is evolving and the player is still a very good one, but no longer really has the same opportunity (that was previously envisioned) to play a large role, etc...I think it's honest and also best for the player. Things change, sometimes quickly...you've only got so many roles and so many minutes.

13m a year isn’t the end of the world for a decent 6th man. His contract will be easy to move if we decide to move on.

Do you envision Cole on a Championship team? I don't think so. And I think most posters would agree with me
He's very tiny and can't defend.

And-1
This contract absorbs only 1/11th of the cap. It is a very good deal for the Magic.

As a 6-8th man, sure. Many championship teams have had sparkplug players. Their role is to turn around offensive lethargy from starters. Let's be fair about last year, the Magic had a LOT of that.

Highly unlikely we move half of the roster, imo.
Here’s my take
I'd let Fultz, Harris, Okeke, Kevon, Schofield, Ingles, houstan go
Trade Cole
Re-sign Moe and possibly goga

Hoops hype has an excellent, honest look at the Magic's off-season relative to the cap and its free agents.

He's very tiny and can't defend.
1. He's not that small, too small to be effective starting, but not too small.
2. Cole can be an offensive nightmare, he can score on anyone and he's shown that.
His issue, when he isn't making his 3s, his +/- is upside down. When he's consistent, he was our best bench player.

Anthony is no Jason Terry or Jamal Crawford, but thinking this thorough, Anthony can be his generation's Dell Curry.

The real issue is that (last season's mega disappointment aside), the bench lacks that alpha scorer if Anthony is gone. There totally exists a world in which Anthony is traded, but first the team needs to sign a reliable bench replacement that can get his own shot and offer playmaking ability. Unfortunately, with AB and Howard likely to enter the bench lineup they need a consistent person to get buckets.
I really do think that Carter is a much better trade candidate in that a rim running, rebounding center may work better with a point-forward like Banchero on the roster. Carter is also a sell high candidate, while Anthony is undeniably a sell low candidate right now.

Cole is a great team member and brings energy to the locker room. The guys love him. That is worth something.
Cole also brings valuable “bucket getting” ability off the bench.
Combined these are enough to warrant his extension. If someone wants him included in a trade which benefits us, he will be shipped away quickly with little hesitation. But the extension was an easy decision.
