76ers worked out the least prospects at only 2
Pelicans worked out only 6 prospects
Bulls and Knicks worked out 8 prospects each
In comparison the Pacers worked out 31
Warriors worked out the most prospects at 44

Trailblazers and Timberwolves worked out 22 ranked prospects while the Jazz did 18 ranked prospects

Trailblazers worked out 5 lottery picks while the Jazz worked out 4 lottery picks. That shows to me that the teams know their plans and targets in the top 14.

Of course this doesn’t take into account all teams seeing prospects at the NBA combine in Chicago. I imagine some teams may be sneaky and not make public knowledge of who they talked to and targeted at the NBA combine.
Also based on teams available draft picks they have reason to only workout certain ranges of prospects and/or positions accounting for their visits.

Copied from Hoopshype the cumulative 2024 Pacers prospect workouts to date with
rank/name/college or origin /positon/ year

Strange to start at 4pm.

I admit I know very little about college draft prospects but for fun I’m gonna guess if available Pacers draft

#36 Enrique Freeman

#49 Jalen Bridges, Kevin McCullar,

#50 Adem Bona, DJ Burns

Undrafted player signed to Mad Ants -Tristen Newton

So 6 names for 4 possible spots/scenarios. Leaning towards wing, forward , and center positions.

It’s fine if anyone laughs or critiques my guesses.

Early start allows watching the debate at 9.

I predict a wing, a big, and a point guard.

 - laughing with you NOT at you! This draft is going to have a lot of people laughing!

This draft is much deeper with NBA athleticism and potential than the talking heads seem to be willing to consider. IMO, there are going to be a number (a dozen, maybe more) players from this draft with good, long careers. There are likely to be a few that are key starters on playoff or better teams.... They all need to develop & grow into the NBA, but I'm not betting against the players this year.

I think the Pacers will be looking to come out of this draft with a developmental big, and an athletic combo forward with potential. If they keep all three picks,.. the 3rd could be anybody, any position, just because the coaches like the player.

at 39,... someone ''rated" at the end of the first is likely to drop,.. but all the way to 39? questionable,... Some mocks have DaRon Holmes early in the second,.. I think he's in the first. Tyler Smith has been falling,... but again, it feels like he should be in the first. McCullar was mid first before his injury,.. he's been sliding with no real reason,.. again, likely first. Klintman, who I'm not high on, has been mocked late first, very early second. Pacome Dadiet, is mocked as an early second, but he has legit PF length & SF quickness. He is only 18, and could play overseas for a season or two, making him a good developmental pick. Jonathan Mogbo has been mocked anywhere from 31 to 58. Right now he's in the 40's on most drafts.

If we come away with anyone of those,... I'm happy. They all have the 'better than average' NBA athleticism that Coach has been drafting the last couple of years, the length to play as a 4,... but the quickness to guard or play the 3,... some could guard down to the 2.

I'd also like to see us grab Chomche, as the development big... But Bona has legit athleticism, strength and speed, like a pure 5 version of Ob1 (in style, and as a ceiling). Bona's production did not match up with his athleticism & demonstrated skills,... but how much of that was due to system & team?.... who knows? You could put Oso Ighodaro in the mix as well.

I did go back and have a quick look at our draft history,... as far back as I can look,... which was only 4 years, out of 10 draft picks, we only had 1 draft selection that we had not brought in for a workout. Not sure that means anything?... Not sure that it doesn't?.... :dontknow: :hoop:

I believe when the talking heads call a draft strong or weak they are only rating tier one players. Also our last two drafts show that quality college seniors (and COVID allowed extra years) are available in the 30s.

We need to replace Doug and probably Stix. With TJ solidly on the second unit, I hope we add a PG. will nembhards brother be in next year's draft?

Oh yeah,... Like Freeman and Bridges. Freeman could fit really well,.. probably better than Mogbo, as that combo-forward.

I've reached the saturation point where lots of second round players look good but I don't know if they really are or I've just seen their names often.

You have reached 'draft enlightenment',.... the one question that no one can really answer until after summer league and training camp.... :meditate:  :-D

Last year there was a big story that the Pacers wanted Bobi Klintman. I don't know if he'll be there at 36 or if they'd take him. I'd say they need some size if Jalen Smith is gone so Klintman would fill the bill. There is also Tyler Smith a 6'10'' GLeague player. I also like that Boma. He could be Biyombo or he could be like Clint Capela. I'd look at him at 49

I'd be ok with Nikola Djurisic at #36 then Boma at 49 and best remaining at 50.

Return to Indiana Pacers
