I hope the Oilers win. I wonder if Trudeau would try to weasel his way into the parade, like he showed up for the Raptors parade and the WNBA announcement. If so I imagine Albertans will boo him which will be funny.

Re: OT: Leafs/NHL Thread
Why did the announcers keep saying the Oilers challenge of the offside on the Panthers goal was, gutsy, took courage, etc ? Seems a no brainer to challenge a critical goal if you have a chance to overturn it

Re: OT: Leafs/NHL Thread
^^I think the stakes are higher in the NHL for a coaches challenge.
https://bshockey.com/nhl-coachs-challenge-challenges-explained-for-beginners/
If a coach's challenge is unsuccessful, the team is assessed a minor penalty for delay of game. They don't lose their timeout anymore. However, I'd view the delay of game penalty as the much more impactful event.
https://bshockey.com/nhl-coachs-challenge-challenges-explained-for-beginners/
It is important to note that the success rate of coach challenges is not very high. In the 2022-2023 NHL season, only 33.3% of challenges were upheld. This means that teams must weigh the potential consequences of challenging a call before deciding.

If it's not overturned, Edmonton is penalized for a failed challenge and Florida goes on the PP after cutting the lead 2-1.

Re: OT: Leafs/NHL Thread
The penalty thing is so dumb. The play was very close at the line. If it hadn't gone the Oilers way and Florida got a PP and scored out of it, it would have been a travesty and ruined a great showing by the Oilers. They need to remove that dumb rule that you get a penalty if you're wrong.
It's not like teams have 2 or 3 challenges. They only have one and you want them to be able to challenge calls that could be wrong.

It's a penalty against you if you're wrong. However, Oilers weren't afraid of Panthers power play which made decision easier.

A failed challenge would have resulted in the penalty. In the NBA a failed challenge just results in a loss of a timeout. The penalty for failing the challenge is what makes it risky.

I don't like the penalty for unsuccessful challenge rule.
But yeah the Oilers pk has been really good I heard that stat last night

That was a very wild chance to take in that situation. Hopefully they had a very clear view that showed that it was offside (which we the viewers didn't see). That play was so close they could have ended up wrong and given Florida a PP lol in an elimination game, which up 1.

Panthers are 1 for 19 on the PP in this series, it was probably the right risk to take.

PP is still a PP where you're a man short and hemmed into your own zone. I wouldn't care about the 1-19. 2-20 and a tie game in an elimination game would have been a tough situation to be in.

It's worse than 1-19. Oilers on the PK have outscored Florida 2-1. Sure it's a risk, but the play looked offside (although not initially called).
BTW, Argentina showed an amazing ability to push the soccer offside rule to the limit in their game against Canada. It must be all they practice.
