Cle / OKC
Cleveland receives: 12th pick from OKC
Oklahoma receives: '31 top 5 protected first (top 5 '32, otherwise 2 2nds)
Why?
Cleveland gets another cost-controlled player.
OKC doesn't have more room for rookies, they need to compromise.

Re: Cle / OKC
Last year, Presti got a 2029 first for the “worst of four 2024” firsts and two seconds. And that first actually could roll over, where as this first has no roll over option due to it already being 7 years out.
Maybe there’s a world where OKC trades back to 18-22 and gets a protected future first, then trades a couple seconds with 18th-22nd for the Cleveland pick.
That seems comparable. And very Presti to open up 2-3 million more in cap space and add 2 future firsts..
So 12th+seconds for 20th+2031 protected first
But for Cleveland? I have no idea why you’d want to bring in 12th in an offseason you’re probably trading Garland to go win now.. Doesn’t fit IMO.

I personally would only do the '31 pick for #12 swap without including #20.

I’m open to trading #12, but also curious with your notion that OKC has to compromise. Can you expand on that?

Then OKC looks elsewhere and get s better deal

Re: Cle / OKC
The Cavs have absolutely no business trading future firsts. This is the last pick they'll own for half a decade.

Too many rookies and picks, not enough roster spots. Plus, they want to sign Hartenstein.

We have one draft pick and 3 open roster spots and two more players with non guaranteed contracts for next season.
We had 3 frp’s going into this draft and traded the non lottery picks. Not too worried about having too many picks.

OKC has no roster spot issues this upcoming season. It looked like they would, but they did a 3 for 1 consolidation trade in the Hayward deal, cut Poku, and traded away the other firsts they had for this draft.

Assuming the Thunder have legitimate interest in Hartenstein, which would go against everything we know about how OKC wants to play, they have plenty of roster space without giving up #12. OKC will have 12 players under contract if they exercise all their team options and $33M in space after drafting a rookie at #12. That would make Hartenstein player number 14 and he isn't likely to get $33M this season so OKC would still have space and an open roster spot. They can decline the team option for Waters if they want another open roster spot. They also pay a 2nd for someone like Detroit to take Dieng's salary, $5M, and open another roster spot.
The Hartenstein rumors make no sense as OKC insists they want to continue to play 5-man out with 3pt shooting bigs. Hartenstein is a terrible shooter and doesn't fit anything OKC goes. If they wanted a traditional big man they have had a lot of options to fill that hole over the last year. They could have traded their pick directly to Washington for Gafford instead of sending that pick to Dallas for a pick swap that might not convey, which was then used for Gafford.
Trading down makes no sense for OKC unless there is no one they want at #12 and they are interested in a draft and stash, i.e. Chomche, later in the draft. If OKC wants a big man Edey and Ware would be options for them and Edey should come into the league as a great P&R roll man, defensive force in the paint and rebounder. I expect them to take Ja'Kobe Walker, who I don't particularly like, but fits Presti's draft history. OKC's top 10 used lineups last year were all 4 PG/wing players with one floor stretching big man. I don't expect that to change this year. Presti made it clear he doesn't care about getting destroyed on the glass and wants to continue down the path he has OKC on with stretching the floor.

Re: Cle / OKC
#12 is unlikely to be relevant in the next two years and thus I don't see the Cavs compromising their future so that they can bring in two rookies.
I also see #12 being the perfect spot for OKC to draft their choice of a stretch big like Holmes, Ware, or Filipowski.

Re: Cle / OKC
I think Cleveland is the wrong trade partner for OKC.
OKC has too many young players at the 2G spot - Joe, Wallace, Williams. Who OKC sees as the true running mate to SGA.
My approach would be offering #12 and one big in Dieng/Williams and the least of Joe/Wallace/Williams to NYK for Robinson and #24.
OKC gets a center to move Holgren to PF. The PFs OKC has drafted are just not good enough.
NYK gets to move up and pick a better player and convince Hartenstein that he is the starting center.

2 seconds might get you to 18.
