I prefer a more full youth movement and rebuild but this is a very easy report to believe. Zach is a better fit with Giddey and by going Giddey instead of draft picks it shows the Bulls aren’t interested in tanking.
I took what KC said basically as the Bulls telling KC that he needs to sell Bulls fans on the fact that they can't trade Zach right now because teams aren't interested in trading for him without getting some assets for taking on his contract.
I still think Bulls would much rather prefer to trade Zach, but they won't do it when they have to give up additional value for him.
FWIW, KC is hardly a mouthpiece for the Bulls FO. Maybe Reinsdorf. But he's been passive aggressively jabbing Arturas for the last 2 years, along with Schanowski and the rest of the Comcast crew.
I think the straight truth is that Zach Lavine buying in and becoming a less egotistical player ("give me the ball and let me cook while I take a break on defense") would be way more valuable to the Bulls, Zach, Chicago, Billy Donovan... everybody in the organization... than dumping him for somebody's piss.
OTOH, Zach getting traded for nothing would be very beneficial for the team that gets him, and maybe him. Unless it's Detroit or another losing place where he's not primary ball handler. But IMO Klutch and he have been angling for a California trade, and it's not that hard to read between the lines. The worse the narrative (another surgery, quitting on coach, bad numbers), the easier to get him for D'Lo and Gabe Vincent.

For the repeat record, I've disliked Zach since the Jimmy trade. But he improved quite a bit during the 21-23 stretch. I do believe he has a chronic injury problem. But it's partially his IQ/awareness/skills are so poor, kind of like D-Rose (until he adjusted back in MIN/NYK), when he doesn't have his first-step or athletic confidence, it's like there's very little to contribute with the ball in his hands despite that being his strong-suit. Nevermind the defense (which may or may not be a valid issue; I stand by my theory that anybody with an ACL surgery can't defend as well, later in their career - Lowry being the only exception I could think of, who had it as a college freshman and recovered really fast... I guess Isaac and Kawhi are both huge guys who can defend well, albeit former DPOY-caliber players who now are lucky to play 50 games in a season. In Isaac's case, averaging 15 mpg?)
All that said, he's still worth a shot as a 3rd option, with a playmaker and rim protector. Pairing him with Vuc and Demar, and having no Lonzo/PG replacement was a mistake.
If they keep Zach, Vuc must either go to the bench or get sent out too. Giddey and Zach would need a defensive C (Clingan).
