Extra roster spot for when Giannis asks to be waived and wants to sign for the minimum with the champs. He'd be a good facsimile of Oshae for that 10th-12th man role.

Yeah - I sort of thought opting in could be a negative for roster flexibility. Didn't realize his salary was so much more than the minimum. He may regret this but he can get more playing time elsewhere and leverage it into more money later.

I was very happy when we signed him, and thought he always brought good energy/vibes. Wish he could have made a few of those layups or jumpers go in. Maybe with consistent playing time elsewhere he can.

He could be brought back. But his testing of the waters, might not be a good idea, at this time.

He declined a $2.5M option. His vet min is about $2.4M.

A guy like him could be out of the league for a year or on a non guaranteed contract if he tears his ACL in the playoffs or at the end of the regular season or even if he just has a really bad year. If he opted in, he just has the 1 year. He's probably not good enough to get more than the vet min again as a free agent, but he probably is good enough to get a player option added to the deal like he got with us.

For a guy like him, signing a $2.4M vet min deal with the player option for security next year is worth the $100K paycut IMO. Even if that's back with us in the same role as last year. If he finds that deal from a team with more of a role for him, then that's even better for his long term earnings outlook.
