Fine with it if the 76ers do the necessary diligence to ensure he’s remorseful, won’t do it again and will be a great teammate.

Bro talking like Bridges is into crossdressing, not beating his kids' mother nearly to death.

That's where I was at with it. Like if he genuinely realized that he made a mistake and was dedicated to change and bettering himself from this, then I would be fine with it. Unfortunately the guy still carries himself like an arrogant jerkoff. I say that, watch him sign with Boston for the vet min.

Re: How would you feel about Miles Bridges being a 76er?
thats the thing.
people **** up all the time...maybe not to that extent but still.
its the fact that he continued to be a POS towards her IN FRONT of his kids at that.
That feels like a dude who is going to get got doing worse **** and with our luck at the worst possible time. People often bring up Vick ....he went to jail, lost it all, and at the very least seemed remorseful for it.
Now I'm not going to sit here and act like I'd stop watching or that he needs to repent for his sins and all that jazz; I aint god but yeah I get the reaction from people...like I said tho selfishly I simply don't want anymore negative karma around this franchise lol

Well this is why I keep basketball separate from things like this.

I actually think Giddey has a worse public perception from NBA fans at this time for dating someone who could have been like 2 years younger than him (he was 19; she was under 18). Back when I was in HS, I saw a 17 year old dating an 18-19 year old many times and nobody cared. But it’s more fun for opposing fans or terminally online people to call him a pedophile.
Meanwhile, Bridges was, possibly still is, terrorizing his children and physically abused their mother and all 30 teams are trying to decide what is the right amount of millions per year they should throw at him to be competitive for his services.

That's what you have a legal system for. You all act like the guy shouldn't be able to earn a living going forward. This isn't a church choir, it's a basketball team. Lot of people throwing stones in glass houses in this thread.

The only person who has expressed an unreasonable opinion in this thread is you. The board was asked how they would feel about the signing and they responded. No one has said anything about whether he should be able to earn a living.
By the way, earning tens of millions playing basketball isn't a human right. There are circumstances where that privilege could be taken away, especially considering the heavy involvement of third parties on revenue generation. The public image of the league matters when you're trying to sell it as an advertising proposition.

Yea, I was wondering if I understood the idiom wrong. Are there people in this thread beating their spouses?

This is something a lot of people don't get. Everyone, aside from the most monstrous human beings, is entitled to a chance to grow and change. That does not entitle you to do so in one of the most highly paid, most desirable, jobs in the world. Particularly one that is so public facing and has many other people's jobs, at least in part, dependent on your image.
Also, the only thing this guy has in common with Vick is that they both committed crimes. Unless I'm missing something, his contrition has been non-existent.

This thread is already a perfect example of why you don’t sign a guy who abuses his wife. You immediately fracture your fanbase between people who can ignore it & people who can’t.
It’s bad for business, team morale, and the culture of the organization. You think Joel want to sit up at a press conference and answer questions about this?

Great point. Hadn't even considered it. He doesn't want that and I don't want it either.

I made the Vick comment, and you make a good point except that contrition can be a very convenient thing when you've spent a couple years in prison and the only thing you know how to do for a living has been taken away.
Vick was (and likely may still be) a repulsive person who was smart enough after prison to
understand that serious contrition and charitable activity was the only way to get anything close to his livelihood back.
Bridges perhaps hasn't paid enough of a price yet,
which makes signing him a huge risk probably not worth taking for the Sixers. He does seem like another disaster waiting to happen.

As long as there's a morals clause in his contract, there is minimal risk. If he does something stupid again just terminate his contract.

I'd rather not create a divide which is what signing Bridges will ultimately do. I was on board with the idea beforehand, but it's probably best if we stay away from this one. Let it be another teams problem. Truth be told, I think he stays put in Charlotte.

Good points. Not to say that you said this but, I will just add, that not having the baseline mental capacity to realize you should be on your Ps and Qs after **** up so colossally is another black mark on Bridges.

Re: How would you feel about Miles Bridges being a 76er?
I personally have gone on record to say that I hope the man turns his personal life around. I hope he becomes a better figure for his children and can co parent with their mother without further toxicity. But truthfully, that's probably years down the line. However, I am sure she and the kids would love to have more wealth in the family too, so long as they all can improve those relationships. His endorsement career is likely over, and his only chance is through playing. It's certainly not a right, and he has to showcase with time that he can continue to keep his nose clean and deliver on the court.
But, that type of drama is not what this team needs at this time. No contender needs that type of distraction.
I would also understand if no team wants to sign them at this time. I hope he's doing the work to improve his own mental well-being, and he should be doing some work with non-profits in the domestic abuse realm.
I'm also not going to be a online gangster and continue to jump on the guy when I don't really know his entire situation, and I hope that situation is improving daily. Meaning if a team takes him, I'm just going to hope for the best, but his actions have certainly been a black eye for this league and any team that pays him to play.
