Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
I’ve really warmed up to the idea of DDR on an affordable deal & we use the remaining cap space and picks to fill out the roster. It’s probably the best path toward building a deep & competitive team.

I wonder if Orlando would be willing to part with Isaac. Would unload the bag for him over Lauri.
Would love Jalen Smith or Obi.

its more so about what Morey does to fill out the rest of the roster imo
PG is the best "fit". Jimmy is the best playoff player. OG is the best longterm option. None of them solves all of the issues. All of them will give us more than Tobias tho. So it "fixes" that one thing.
Agreed with this.
I still don't know why Mikal/Lauri isn't brought up though. Given thme godfather offer of all our picks, Melton/Reed. There might be 2-3 teams that can compete with that, but you never know. It has to be discussed, as those two would allow us to sign a bunch of good role player, where with this you lose out on a lot of capscape to be able to sign decent or good role guys.
They’re not coming up because they’re not available for what we can offer. If they are available, there are a handful of teams that can handily beat our best offer.

The moment Mikal hits the market, the Knicks would pounce.
The moment Lauri hits..OKC will pounce

I love him too, but be honest, he's hardly available to play

FireMorey wrote:Mike Scotto said despite Shams' report, the Sixers still really want PG.
He also said if not him, trading for Butler or signing Anunoby are their next preferred options they could pivot to.
Said Anunoby is expected to get minimum of 35m per season.
If true, it's kinda sad PG is giving every indication he doesn't want to be here, yet Morey's still alivating at signing him like a lap dog.
Stein saying it's still very unlikely OG leaves New York.
I think it will be Butler or Ingram. The Butler path just makes rounding out the roster so difficult.

Windy said PG could opt in and get traded this week and that the PG situation is going to come to a head quickly.

He's been hinting at this for awhile now. Clearly PG doesn't want us. Time to focus on the other options.

If he gets traded why do I have this nagging feeling it will be the Knicks? If Morey loses the guy he wants so badly to the team that knocked his team out of the playoffs, he honestly should just resign at that point. It would be an organizational embarrassment of the highest order.

It's funny because the "counter-argument" to that has been that teams can just trade into our cap space. You know what also works? Having tradable contracts and young players to send to other teams instead of just offering picks with nothing else.

Not shocking that star level player wants to go to star level city.
And if not New York, then Miami. And if not Miami, then Golden State. And if not them, then the other Los Angeles...
It's tried and true that big name free agents don't want to come to Philadelphia. We need to stop playing ourselves.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
Even thought it's stupid and annoying due to our cap space situation, I'd be fine if we pulled in Ingram. I know he has the Tobias misnomer among the fan base, but he got his stats as an on ball creator for the Pelicans while Tobias got his stats while being asked to do anything as an off-ball guy.
I know the Ingram situation in FIBA gives doubt as to whether he can be more off ball, but I take that situation with a grain of salt since it was a crack team thrown together with little synergy involved.
I love Maxey and I love Embiid, but neither of them should be the one with the ball in their hands as the clock is winding down. Ingram can get a pretty good 2FG look at any time due to his length and ability to handle the ball. Also his ability to distribute would be welcomed.
That said, having him for one year on this contract suggests he's going to want a massive deal next summer. So we better be sure this trio is the right one.

Morey should have been fired after the Harden debacle. Instead he got a contract extension.
Let's see if he can save himself in the next week.

If he comes up empty this summer I already want him gone, but at that point I'd honestly want him gone more than I ever wanted Colangelo gone. Can't remember a time I disliked a Philly GM as much as this guy, he's just so so bad. But the fact that people are still deluded into thinking he's good makes me dislike the whole situation even more.

I don't think this is going to be a situation where we can push it off to another year since we're re-signing Maxey (and Embiid) to extensions this summer. I imagine we're going to need to lock up the third guy before that happens and I doubt Morey is going into this offseason completely blind as to what player he's going to land.

The Tobias misnomer is unfortunate, but like you said, Tobias was never the creator or shot-maker Ingram is. He's going to play his ass off this year knowing a max is on the line next summer. Whether or not he holds up to the max or near max he's going to receive is another story, but I feel confident that he can be a #2 or #3 on a championship team for the next several years.
The other two starters would need to be legitimate 3&D players. The starting 4 ought to be someone who can switch onto Brown/Tatum.
Guards/wings: KCP, Smart, Caleb Martin (Cody is also a very good defender), Marshall, Melton, O’Neale

You can dislike or be critical of Morey but saying he is worse than Colangelo is lol-worthy
